Novaturn NS

Post by Deck36 »

I bought a Novaturn NS recently and have so far not been able to get it running.
I tagged onto another thread about a similar issue, so in a last ditch effort to find some answers I thought it worth starting a new thread about it, in the hope it catches someone’s eye.

These are the things I have done and the results, thanks to help from CNC Guru Martin.

I have the original PC and software with license.
Don't have the upgrade software on the PC nor do I have the original discs.
VR Turn is Version 1.39.0.0.

Made a new 9 pin- 9 pin cable from PC to control card directly from this link
https://www.denfordata.com/bb/viewtopic.php?t=231

3 fuses were removed and checked as good.

When I start the machine and software I get this:
Control board 7 segment green display shows an “E” flashing
Hit the Machine Control button and a dialogue pops up, followed by a "Downloading Program" box with "Erasing Flash" progress bar.
This produces an "8" on the display
Hit the "Home" button on the machine control dialogue and get a solid "h"
The x/z DRO's then start to climb to ridiculous figures (3500mm)
And that's about it. Software locks up.
Freezes after that.

If anyone can shed any light on either what the problem might be, or a way to diagnose it I would be very grateful indeed.

It sounds like you have an issue homing which may be as simple as a axis drive fuse.

Can you post a picture of serial plate & the electrical cabinet.

Hi Martin

You suggested I check the fuses in our last communication, which I did, found 3 and all were good.

Can you post a picture of the electrical panel. There should be more than 3 fuses.

More than 3 fuses iis great news. Hopefully the ones I didn't find are blown.

Is there a Novaturn NS electronics circuit drawing or schematic with fuse locations on it?

Just had a look back.

It looks like the Motor connections are loose. Can you check.

An update on the Novaturn:

After going through all the steps advised by Martin earlier in this thread, the only logical option for me was to arrange a service call from Denford.
As this machine is being used for my work I had justification for the expence so went ahead and booked the visit.

Service engineer Nick arrived and with Martin (via video call) spend a couple hours faultfinding, swapping boards and checking the system.
Of all the things that could have been the problem, it was finally traced to a broken emergency stop button!
That was a hell of an expensive button, but there was no way I would ever have been able to track it down, so the service call was worth the money.

This forum, it's moderators and members have been an absolute lifeline with this machine (and my Novamill come to think of it) so I have to thank Denford, Martin, Nick and all the members for their invaluable help in getting my machine running.
Can't find anything other than gratitude for a great British company.

Every project I work on will now be round
