This feels like an old chestnut but I couldn't find anything in the archive.
After seeing my Sharpedge 16", my carpenter is looking for one, but he is on single phase.
- Can the motor be simply rewired?
- If not, can anyone recommend a convertor they have used or
- Any experience with a cheap single phase motor to swap over.

You might indeed be able to run a sharpedge directly off single phase using a capacitor for the spare leg if the motor can be wired for delta configuration. It doesn't need a lot of startup torque. Might take a shove to get it turning.

if you can get the motor spec I'm pretty sure you would be able to get a modern single phase motor with the same mountings, and a modern motor would probably be a bit more efficient than older ones would. That or has been said it may be possible to re wire with a capacitor so it runs single. A friend took a motor in from a floor standing pillar drill to a motor place, cost him £80 to have it wired with a Cap, was able to fit a switch to reverse the direction too for drilling left handed holes!
