Can anyone tell us why the machine is not drawing oil up the pipes to feed the stone, it is almost as though air is blowing down the pipes.

The Sharpedge I've dealt with had what looked to be a petrol pump operated by a cam on the motor shaft so if your not getting any oil pumped then that would suggest that the pump has failed in some way, possibly a failed diaphragm, not an usual failure for such a device.
