The software needs to know that the Turn 270 has a tool post fitted.

On VR Turnings top menu bar select
SETUP > MACHINE PARAMETERS (Password denny) >TOOL CHANGE

Re: 270Pro tool change command results in ...silence pt2
Hi Bradders,

Just had my 270 upgraded to 270Pro and am experiemncing similar problem as before eg tool changer not responding when requested.

This time i have checked as you previously suggested, that the tool changer is set to 1,8,8. Perhaps if you could kindly suggest anything else, i'd be greatful.

Many thanks, Graeme

Have you got the correct machine selected?

It should be a Turn270Pro.
Re: 270 lathe tool change command results in ...silence
Hi Bradders,
I opened the machine settings option using `denny` and it showed the 270pro option auto expanded then 'tool change' showed 1,8,8. Although i uninstalled previous version of vr turn before reinstslling i dont recall specifically selecting the pro.

Cheers, graeme

Did the machine come back to Denford for upgrading to Pro ? What was changed, just the chuck and spindle drive+motor ?
I'm wondering if the machine type has not been programmed onto the control card, causing the mint logic to behave differently.

Have you got the serial number?

Is it HO5223. If it is then it needs the new software & to be set as a Turn 270 Pro which should have the toolchange set as type 6

Without connecting to the machine, go to setup then select Turn270 PRO. You now have a different turret fitted so need to select the correct machine
Re: 270 lathe tool change command results in ...silence
Thanks Martin, Steve and Admin,

Well, the correct machine was selected but by changing the Tool Post, Auto changer option from 1 to 6, as suggested, the turret responded to manual and programme commands.

Can I just check that the, tool changer, machanism is performing correctly as the following occurs:

* As the machine nearly completes a tool change operation the selected tool continues to rotate 3% past the pre-set operational position. An audible grinding sound can then be heard from between 2 and 3 seconds while the tool is located in its final secure operational position. The volume of the sound is approximately 40Db.

* When the machine axes (x and y) are sent to the machine datum (home) the same sound as above can be heard.

The previous tool changer did not sound like this so thought I would check.

Also, Martin you are correct - that is the serial number!

Many thanks, Graeme

Re: 270 lathe tool change command results in ...silence
Hi,

Yes that is correct. The new type toolchanger has a steppermotor which drives it instead of a DC motor fitted to previous models. When it reverses on to the ratchet we drive it for a short period then stop the stepper which holds the toolchange in place. I agree it does sound worrying but is as it is meant to be.

Great, problem solved then!

Many thanks, Graeme
