the computer is not finding the microrouter. the error message says to check that the machine is on (it is) and check the rs232 cable (the rs232 cable seems fine).
i opened the control panel and the control card flashes 8. d3 and d4 are flashing at the same rate.
(leading up to this problem, i was getting 'transmit buffer is full' errors.

It sounds like the RS232 cable may be faulty.

switched the rs232 cable and it started working!
however, there is an issue where it sometimes loses the z coordinate zero and plunges down until e-stop is hit. suggestions?

Does it plunge when you home the machine or is it during a program?

inspector x from denford solved this for me. the winding nut was causing resistance. and making the z axis lose zero. proper cleaning silicone lube fixed it.
