We have seen the error Baud Rate Number Unsupported when trying to connect to a USB compatible Lathe (eg Turn270, Novaturn, MicroTurn)

I've found out that this happens (and will then continue to happen) if you try to connect the VR Turning software to a machine that it can't find (eg, the USB cable has been pulled out, or the machine is switched off)
To fix it, go into Setup > machine parameters and under communcation settings set the control type back to 9 (it will probably be set to something else like 11)
This won't happen in the next release of VR Turning v1.20
