viceroy denford lathe

Post by daver » Wed 03 Jul , 2013 9:54 am

Hi, I'm a new member who's just bought a Viceroy Denford lathe, it's a bit old and I intend to spend a bit of time and money to improve it's condition. What I would like to know is what model it is so I can look for spares and such. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi
Welcome to the forum.

Looks like you have a Mk2 TDS variant.
Take a look at lathes.co.uk for some info.

Spares are very rare for these machines.

Your lathe would be a good candidate for a CNC retrofit because it doesn't have a gearbox and other features that would not be needed.

Hi Dazz, Thank you for the info,as I'm new to what for me is a hobby, I'm not sure what you mean when you talk about CNC retrofit.

Hi
That's when the handles are replaced with motors controlled by a computer.

Before going down that path, it would be best to get comfortable with using the lathe as it is (after a clean up).

Hello,

I agree with Dazz. However, I have a second Denford TDS that I am breaking for spares and using some parts to repair the Denford lathe TDS that I rebuilt and featured in this Denford forum. Just look up posts under Taylon. If you wish to contact me use the IM on this forum.

Kindest regards, John R.

Hi Daver,

Your lathe is a TDS1 LS - 'LS' meaning leadscrew.
I have just posted a diagram of the different lathe models in this thread.
