I am trying to buy a 4 jaw independant chuck for my easiturn 3 to replace the 3 jaw self centering one thats fitted to it.
I am trying to find out what type of system the easiturn 3 uses,
I believe it's a camlock system using 3 pins of 14mm diameter with a shallow taper in the centre.
I think it's a camlock d14 system or is it D1 - 4?
What does the D, 1 and 4 mean?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks in advance
Dave.
The Easiturn was based on the Viceroy 280 machines which had a D1-3 fitting.
The D1-4 is significantly bigger!
You'll see it written in many ways - D13, D1-3, etc.
A word or warning (from experience) - if buying secondhand get the vendor to confirm measurements to you as some people get the designations wrong!

While what you say is probably correct for the majority of Easiturn machines, I think if you look through all the brochures posted above by admin. that it was offered with a D1-4 spindle.Andy B wrote:The Easiturn was based on the Viceroy 280 machines which had a D1-3 fitting. D1-4 stuff is a lot easier to come by than D1-3 as it is fitted to the larger new Chinese machines from the likes of Chester and Warco.
The best advice to the OP is to use the dimensions posted above and work out what it is from these.
i think there are two versions of the easyturn, one with a small 26 - 28mm spindle bore and the other with a 35 - 38mm spindle bore. I expect the D1-3 is supplied with the smaller spindled machine and the D1-4 with the larger.
I just bought an Easiturn 3 and it came with the 125mm 3 jaw chuck fitted. It uses the D1-3 fitting. The kind bloke i bought it from also gave me a D1-4 backplate which he had got when he bought the lathe in case he wanted to fit a bigger chuck. I'm sure you could just get one of these and fit the D1-4 chuck.
