Novamill Connection Issue

Post by JDub » Tue 22 Jun , 2021 22:59 pm

Hi everyone. New to this forum. Recently bought a Novamill with an ATC. It worked through last Sunday, and then Monday morning I got the typical RS232 error message. I've read through all of the threads on this forum regarding possible solutions. I have 6 Microturns and 5 Micromills (some of each are NS). So, I was excited to get the Novamill ATC.

Eprom 2.0
SN U00179
9/2001
OC 00272928
VR 2.31.3.951

Everything worked Sunday, cannot find machine Monday. The Denstep Control Board displays 8, all the fuses ohm out good. I've swapped 3 RS232 cables, all null modem, no luck. I've tried 3 different laptops from my other Micromills, no luck. The 9 pin to 25 pin ohms out good. The 25 pin female ohms out good to the 9 pin female to the Denstep Control Board.

Searching for machine is unsuccessful...machine not found. In between all the testing it found the machine on COM3 even though it has always run on COM1. Will not download mnt file...download failed. Mintman has not proven successful either.

I have the original software (CD and floppy), but no floppy drive to install the 3.5", so I can't do a simple reinstall.

Any ideas?

There is a thread somewhere on how to find the file with the licence text, you can download the software from the main denford site and then paste the text back into the file.

You should be able to prove your computer and com port on any of your other machines.

The com port is set via bios or within windows.

Hi Pete,

I had been through all of that also.

I pulled a known working Denstep board off one of my Micromills, and confirmed that the control board must have died in its sleep Sunday night. I still had to reinstall the software which was an entirely different challenge since it kept telling me my Seckey file was invalid. Finally convinced it that it was. Hard fought victory, but I WIN! :D

I have the same issue but I don't have a spare Denstep board. Any idea where I can get one from?
