machine plans

Post by BAZ1969 » Tue 26 Nov , 2019 9:23 am

Hi,
I am new to this software so i`m looking for a bit of advice on setting up some machining plans for a particular part, I`ve had a look and tried a few options but its not doing what i want.
The part is 2mm thick engraving laminate, 2 colours and i want to profile around the outside of the part then come in board and mill out some pockets 0.5mm deep to reveal a persons name then to finish scribe a line 2mm in board of the outside edge all round 0.5mm deep. the outside scribed line and the pockets will cut into the top face of the laminate and into the internal colour. I have tried to use pencil milling plan which goes around all the edges fine but leaves islands of material in certain areas in the name. I am using a 2mm cutter and the width of the text is about 3.5mm wide. It is also not doing the scribed line around the outer edge, this was created in the 3d model as a v cut. The scribed line(V CUT) is in the model to highlight the outer shape of the part when finished. I only purchased Quickcam pro last week, the stl file of the part i am working on has been attached.
Regards Paul

Hi Paul

Have you thought about doing this as a 2D image in either QuickCAM 2D Design or Tecshsoft 2D?

There is a charge for both of them.

If you can create a DXF file VRMilling will open it & create a machine plan. There is a tutorial in VRMilling to guide you through.
