Denford Co2 Car fixture Question?

Should the "split block" be loose on the pin shaft?
The "nose block" moves left/right in the V-block, is it suppose to?
The left side of the car is a bit higher than the right, how do I get it even?
Is there a way to check the offsets?

Here are some helpful ideas for using the Denford Co2 Car fixture.

Offsets for the Denford Co2 Fixture
X __________ Cutter is centered over the back (left) edge of the block.

Y __________ Cutter is centered on the cartridge pin shaft.

Z __________ Cutter is just touching the top surface of the block.

Hints and Tips
• Install the Knurled cartridge pin with the “blade” horizontal to the car balsa block (vertical to the machine table). Push it firmly into the balsa block.
• Install the aluminum nose block.
• The “split block” should turn easily on the cartridge pin shaft.
• Machine the Right Hand Side (RHS) of the car first. The slot in the bottom of the car will face the front of the machine.
• Always place the split in the “split block” horizontally in the left V-block.
• Push the balsa block-nose block-cartridge pin assembly to the right against the V-block.
• Tighten the steel strap over the nose block first (right side), then the steel strap over the cartridge pin (left side).
• The Offsets can be checked by clicking on the MDI tab and typing in x0y0z0(zeroes) and click Run. This will run the spindle/cutter over to the Offsets position listed above. Click on the Home tab and XYZ button (Home All).
• Open the RHS of the car file, click the Auto tab, click on Turbo, click Run.
• Will ask for a “Tool Change”, just click OK, tool is installed.
• Turn the “Feed Rate” down to almost a crawl with the Feed Rate Over-Ride Knob for the first couple of passes to make sure the cutter does not hit the cartridge pin. Then increase the feed rate to 100%. Let the program file run through. The machine will always start at the back, bottom of the car (left, slotted side of the block).
• Click the Jog tab, jog the table forward.
• Loosen & remove steel straps, rotate block 180 degrees to machine the Left Hand Side (LHS) of the car. The slot in the bottom of the car will face the back of the machine.
• Push the balsa block assembly to the right against the V-block and reinstall the steel straps. Tighten the right side first, then the left.
• Open the LHS of the car file. Click the Auto tab, click Run. Turbo should still be selected (green light on).
• Machine knows the tool is installed and will go right into to the program.
• Turn the “Feed Rate” down to almost a crawl with the Feed Rate Over-Ride Knob for the first couple of passes to make sure the cutter does not hit the cartridge pin. Then increase the feed rate to 100%. The machine will always start at the back, bottom of the car (left, slotted side of the block).
• If there is a ridge down the center of the car, one side of the car is higher than the other when viewed from the back.
1. If the LEFT side is HIGHER, ADD half the height of the ridge to the Y offset.
2. If the RIGHT side is HIGHER, SUBTRACT half the height of the ridge from the Y offset.
3. Record the new Y offset above.

If the fixture is removed, the fixture will have to be realigned and the offsets will have to be re-established.
