TDS 12 / 16 sharpedge out of square!

Hello, I have just bought a very late Viceroy TDS 12/16 Sharpedge, it seems to be in very good condition but I have a problem with it.
When it is set up for a plane iron it cuts spot on square but when you turn it over to grind a chisel it is out of square quite a bit.
I have adjusted it using the grub screws but the best I can get is a comprimise by having both the plane and the chisel settings out of square by half as much.
Can anybody help as It is driving me mad. Great forum by the way.
