Triac Fanuc comms setup

Hi Everyone
I have a Triac Fanuc ATC and need help setting up and using the comms and dripfeeding, I am a Bridgeport/ Heidenhain man so I understand the basic principles of the control but it is not coming easily!
Specs:
Machine S/N: 29100F
Date of manufacture: Nov 1990
Control: OM-B (I think!) S/N: 8021288
Cad/Cam: EdgeCAM V9.5
Cable: 25pin Male/male RS232 to laptop printer port
Control Parameters, not sure if these are relevant but thought I would include them:
PWE=0
REV4=0
TAPEF=0
When I tried setting it up I followed the EdgeCOMM wizard and left it set to the default port COM1, It said to send a program from the control so that it could automatically detect settings such as baud rate, handshake etc, I went into edit and program, typed in the name of an existing program (all the programs are preceded with an ‘O’ e.g. O0015) and hit output/start, It said nothing was received through this port so I tried the others (COM3 and LPT) with no luck!
Any help/ info would be greatly appreciated as would a sorted EdgeCAM post for this machine!
Thanks in advance,
Bry.

Thanks for that, some good info but I am still struggling, I now have an 086 P/S ALARM when I try to transmit or recieve, think it is to do with the pin config, this is not easy...

It sounds like the RS232 is not correct.
Is the com port on the pc a 9way or 25 way?

I could never get my Fanuc to work through a Printer port on my Laptop (IBM R40) and it doesn`t have a Serial connector.
I ended up using a Serial to USB adapter setup and setting my flow control to "Hardware", using the software "XON/XOFF" system is not as good and will probably cause problems if you want to "drip feed" the machine.
The 086 Fanuc alarm is "the ready signal (DR) of reader/puncher was turned off"
Basically means the Fanuc is not getting anything from the PC so very possible it is your cable/computer connections.
When you tried to send a program from the Fanuc control to the computer did you have the flashing "output" showing in the bottom right hand corner of the screen? If not then the Fanuc is not ready to send.
When it is ready to receive then you should have "LSK" flashing in the bottom right hand corner of the screen.
I have both Fanuc OTB and Fanuc OTC on 2 Denford Cyclone Lathes circa 1989 and 1990 and the same cable works fine on both machines, since I set it up that way I have never had a single problem!!
I`ll try and find the sheets I made up for all the connections/settings etc for mine if it would help you.
Regards
Rob

Hi Guys, thanks for the input!
I have tried using a standard 25 pin cable to the printer port and also a 25 to 9 pin adaptor on the same cable to the serial port. When trying to send/recieve when plugged into the printer port the control seems to go through the correct motions ie flashes OUTPUT and LSK when it should but does nothing, when i use the 9 pin adaptor and the serial port it alarms out as soon as i hit input or output which, like you say suggests incorrect pins. Reliability is a priority so yes please, any info you have on a solid setup would be greatly appreciated
Thanks again for the help!!!

I'm slightly worried that you're connecting the same cable to the printer port and serial port... the 25 pin printer port on most PC's is a parallel interface and completely different to an RS232 serial port.
What cable is it you're using ?
The cable Martin posted should work fine - these are not the same as null modem cables or 25 way printer cables you can buy off the shelf - we make them up ourselves.

Hi,
Yes originally I connected the 25pin RS232 to the 25pin LPT port (I have a taig mill that I converted to CNC which runs through an LPT port) but realising it needed to go to a com port I got a 25pin to 9pin adaptor, then on reading Lone_Ranger's post, the usb option sounded good from a reliability point of view as I will be doing some 3D work and so will need to drip feed. Then on reading Martin's post I thought I would have a go at making up a cable myself although I am confused by the wiring diagram, particularly the connection that seems to go across others to "case".
I have also tried to source an "off the shelf" cable but these seem very hard to find so the state of play at the moment is still one of utter confusion!!!

It`s the screen. The cable is made from a length of 4 core screened cable.

The dotted ring around the cables is the braided sheild.
This is normally clamped to the metal case/shell of the connector (see pic) with a metal spring clip which tightens up when you close the shell together. It's to provide noise screening as (hopefully) the metalwork you are screwing the connectors into at each end are both connected to Ground/Earth

PS, you could try
https://www.easydnc.com/ for a cable. One of their guys is a member here and I'd say he's an expert in Fanuc comms.
