Lubricating Oil

Post by el$syd » Thu 27 Aug , 2009 15:44 pm

The TRIAC specifies BP CS 68 lubricating oil.
I am having difficulties locating a small quantity to replace the oil in my lubrication system.
Is this oil a Hydraulic oil similar to :
- Shell Tellus 68 Hydraulic Oil Thermally stable or Exol ultramax 68 hydraulic oil ?

I can only see these for sale in qty's of 20 litres +

Does anyone know where can I get 1 litre or so of BP CS 68 or equivalent Lubricating oil?

Many thanks.

Try Richard at Hallett Oils.

I found him very helpful when finding equivalent oils for my manual lathe & mills.
If you can check with BP technical services as to what their latest equivalent spec is, then give that to Richard he can usually match it, and supply in small quantities.

hi - not sure how compatible it would be your existing oil but we use Mobil Vactra no. 2 on both CNC and manual machines - it has a good reputation as a way oil and, whilst it seems to hold on to the ballscrews and ways, it doesn't seem to grab and hold the chips like some other lubes do.

Thank you for your input.
I contacted Richard at Hallett Oils and he provided equivalent oils and lubricating grease in a much smaller quantity and very good value!
Richard is very helpful and knows his oils! Brilliant :D
