I have a chance to buy a Starturn 8 lathe, converted to PC buy present owner, but he claims the tool turret is not programmeable, and is manualy
controled, the motor is not a stepper!!
Can anyone confirm his claims, as why would you put a manual tool turret on a cnc lathe
Thanks
Mike

Many turns are supplied with a manual toolpost.
The offsets can still be set and the parts can be made.
The normal reason lathes are bought without however is the budget.
The manual toolpost is however more rigid

Denford also used to offer an "electricaly operated manual toolpost" type of thing...
Effectively an 8 station rotary toolpost that could be indexed by pressing a manual push button.
- Machine moves to tool change position
- display prompts user to change tool
- User indexes to new tool, then acknowledges the prompt
Steve's right - it was a cost thing. The 'Delux' model had feedback so the machine could do the indexing itself
