Quickchange Toolpost

Post by weegee » Sat 23 Sep , 2006 4:18 am

Does anyone know of a good quickchange toolpost for the orac, for which replacement bits are still available? I was looking at some of the ones from Chronos. but im unsure if they would fit.

I want to get a new post, as well as 8 or 9 compatible toolholders for it, as i have bought a set of indexable tools, and want to keep them all permanantly mounted in the tool holders.

Any suggestions welcome.

Regards

Graham

Multifix are stil available I believe but expensive. I junked mine and used a dixon QC as I couldn't see the point of 30 possible positions to put a holder and it tok more time to position the holder.

Look on ebay seach dixon or dickson lots of dealers selling them holders about 15 quid. but me being s tight *ss I made about 40, should keep me going for years:)

DOH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i feel really stupid now, your absolutly right!

The toolpost on my machine has only 2 positions, and now you mention it, may very well be a dickson (sure it rings a bell).

I snapped the bolt that mounts the toolpost onto the slide last week, and thought 'oh my god, disaster' but i managed to make a makeshift holder, that survived long enough for me to make a new one, all fixed now. :)

anyway, the point of that story - i have machine tools, i should be making the holders myself, i shall get straight on it. Im so glad you mentioned that, it should save me a fortune. :)

Has anyone else observed that you need a milling machine to make tool holders for a lathe, and a lathe to make tool holders for a milling machine.

Cheers

Graham

These were done the old fashioned way before I had a Triac :(

They're size 1 holders - I think the orac etc uses smaller ones. 63mm between Vee centres seems to be etched on my mind (don't know why :? )

If that's anygood to anyone I'll do you a dxf or dwg when time allows

Thats stunning,

only problem i got - i cant afford enough tools to fill all of them lol.

i use indexable tools and so far my collection is up to 4 standard tools and a boring bar :(

anyway, they are stunning, bit big for my machine, but i like your style - and i shall be making mines shortly :)
