Has anyone replaced the novamill spindle motor?

Post by bpmsl » Fri 26 Jan , 2018 1:26 am

Hi all,
I've been considering upgrading the spindle motor on my novamill with a more powerful and faster AC one with a VFD, has anyone tried this?

What is the power rating for the spindle? Would I trash the bearings running it a 10K RPM?

My two reasons are, I'd like the speed for machining with small carbide tools in aluminium, and the lower speed torque for swinging a fly-cutter for one pass facing operations.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Many thanks
Cheers

The standard bearings are only rated to match the spindle motor fitted.

We fit a matched pair into our 1300PRO just to get the RPM up to 6000. I think it will generate far too much heat and burn out the bearings.
