Mirac PC Proximity Sensor

Post by dhop125 » Thu 16 Dec , 2021 12:05 pm

Hi All,
I suspect I have a faulty x axis proximity sensor on my mirac PC.
Homing the Z axis works as expected. But when homing the x axis, it either moves up untill it hits the end of its travel or mvoes down until it hits the end of its travel. I am assuming this is becuase it has not received the signal from the proximity sensor to tell the machine that it has either reached the home position, or to tell it that it has moved away from home position.

However I am unsure exactly how to test the theory.
Can I swap the Z axis sensor onto the x axis to see if the issue swaps axis also?
Or, i could buy a replacement sensor, but im not entirely sure what to buy.
My research suggests i would need a NAMUR output 2 wire sensor. but I can't confirm whichfrequency or capacitance/inductance values would work. Could anyone confirm which sensor i would need?
Many thanks in advance!

What control is fitted & what software are you using to control it?

Does anyone know if it would be safe to cut the Z axis proximity sensor and splice it into the X axis side? Want to test if it is the X axis sensor thats causing the issue.

You can swap the 2 signals over on the 50way Standard I/O unit in the electrical panel.

If you look at drawings AC3R-04A & AC3R-05A it`s

Pin 35, Wire number 70, X Datum Sensor
Pin 36, Wire number 71, Z Datum Sensor

It may also be worth checking for a broken wire to the X axis stepper motor. You can test the resistance across the windings on the rack.

You should also check the pins in the harting plug connecting the electrical box to the machine. The pins can sometimes push back if it has been moved recently.

Thanks Martin, turned out to be a dodgy wire! would never have thought to check that.
