Miarc EO4368, DM08 turret internals? Alternative tool posts?

Post by teriks » Sun 31 Dec , 2017 13:54 pm

Hi,

I recently bought a 1993 Mirac after lots of reading here and some work its running ok with the original control apart from an issue with the turret. That issue was known when I bought the machine, and I was really prepared to replace the control from the start, but at the moment it works so will see about that.

Anyway, the problem with the turret was kind of random. About once in five tool changes it would not perform the tool change. The motor was energized alright, but the disk would not move at all.
I never waited for a timeout but rather cancelled the tool change. After one or a few further attempts to change tool it was once again working for a few cycles more.

After finding the pictures and drawings posted here on the forum I decided to pull the turret apart hoping to find some solidified grease. What I found inside didn't match the drawings though, story below, no solidified grease either unfortunately.

The machine rating plate:

My turret before disassembly and cleaning:

DM08 or what?
The housing _was_ red before cleaning, the paint didn't like my solvent.

Looks very much like the DM08 except for the parts marked with red.
Is this some version of a standard turret, or perhaps a previous owner have been creative and replaced those parts?

At the moment I'm unsure if I should replace the turret with a different turret, a manual tool post, or try to repair this one.
Repair would for sure have been much easier if the parts would have matched the drawings posted earlier.

Suggestions are welcome!

Well, I assembled the turret again with new bearings and a bit of quick and dirty adjustments on worn parts.
So far its working, but some of the parts I really would have liked to replace.

Would be great if someone would stumble on detail drawings that matches the parts in my turret, but I wont hold my breath on in.

Anyway, for the moment I have a working machine, using the original control and DOS software.
Interesting experience working with 486 hardware, DOS and floppy disks again. :)

I will have a look for the relevant drawings over the next few days when I am in the office.

Absolutely amazing service from you guys!

Would it be of use for anyone if I posted (and would it be ok with Denford to do so?) an image file of my Denford floppy?

Best regards,
Thomas

Hope these help.

I had to photograph the drawings.

It's fine to add whatever you make think is helpful on to the forum.

Thanks a lot!
Someone hand a good hand with the pen back in the days.

For sure its the older turret.

I could use the drawings of, or even better, the actual parts:
TP125/4 Worm
TP125/3 Worm gear
TP125/8 "some name"
No hurry at the moment, but those parts were quite worn so will need to replace in the future.

Some additional info in case anyone is searching for it:
The rating plate fo the turret drive motor:

An image file of the bootable software floppy for this machine:

Works with at least this version of controller:

I for sure dont regret getting a Denford!
With the help of the documentation provided I have had the machine up and running for quite some time now.
Not a single hicccup, impressive of a ~25 year old PC based controller.

Thanks for the great support!
