MICROROUTER COMPACT SPINDLE NOT SPINNING

Post by zowat » Thu 31 Jan , 2008 18:26 pm

Hello,

I've found this forum REALLY helpful in the last couple of days and I am hoping that there is someone who can assist me again please as I am a bit stumped about a problem I am experiencing with my machine! :?

The Microrouter Compact that I am using has just stopped spinning the spindle and I can't seem to figure out why. Can anyone shed any light on this for me please?

I have tried clicking the spindle on icon in the Jog menu (so it turns green) but it just turns itself off again before cutting. :x

Thanks,
Zoe

Fault finding a Router Spindle

Post by Steve » Fri 01 Feb , 2008 9:33 am

I am glad you like the forum :!:

When you are in JOG mode you click on the start spindle button and you say the indicator goes green. This would indicate the output from the controller is on so the request to start the spindle has been processed.

If the guard was open or the machine was not in a safe condition to start the Green light would not come on.

Does the spindle actually start up and turn off?

When you have clicked spindle start does the guard lock?

Does the green light go off after a time?

There are a few things you can check.

1 Has someone flicked the switch on the motor to the off position?

2 Is the plug on the end of the motor lead plugged in correctly?

3 Can you remove the motor and plug it into another 240V supply and check it that way?

4 It could be the brushes are worn out.. If you try turning the motor by hand and then close the guard and try and start it it may work for a short time but not allways start.

5 You can remove the brushes and check for wear (they start out about 20mm long)

Thanks for your reply Steve!

Well, the motor on/off switch is definitely on, however I'm not sure which of the two green indicator lights should be on when in JOG mode? Is it the one to the right of the Z axis program position in Control Panel or is it the the light directly below the JOG button in Control Panel? (Or both?!)

Both green lights are on and then I move into Auto mode and the green spindle light is still lit when the machine starts... but no spindle movement at all!! :?

:D SUCCESS!!! :D

I think a student had knocked the motor lead plug out when vacuuming out the machine... and I, embarrassingly did not notice  ... OOPS!

Well glad it was something simple after all! I can sleep easy over the weekend now! 8)

Thanks for all your help Steve!

My spindle just stopped running and I have tried everything to make it go again to no avail. Do you have any suggestions other than the ones that are on this forum.

The first check to do is to take the motor out of the machine and try running it from a power cord.

It is probably just the brushes that are worn so it would be worth removing them and checking.

Also it may be worth vacuuming out the motor (or blowing with an air line)

Can you update us on the results of the tests you have done.

What software version are you using?

Does the guard lock?

Does the spindle indicator turn green?

Have you checked the Brushes?

What is the age and model of the machine?
