Do Not PAT test... Why?

Hi, could someone give me some justification as to why the Mircorouter Pro circa 2004ish has a label stating do not PAT test? I need to know for the school (there is no ID plate with the usual info anywhere on the machine and I know where the machine came from).

Cheers

Pete

Hi,

If you read the Manual supplied on the VR Milling software there is a description of the reasons for this.

The reason is that there are EMC filters fitted to the machine and in some cases the Spindle drive. These filters will inherently have earth leakage. If a PAT test is performed then permanent damage to the filters could result.

On newer machines a Link has to be removed on the spindle drive to bypass the filters. This is again covered in the manual.

Hi. You can do the visual pat test but be carful not to do the insulation test to earth or you could damage the filters.

If machines trip the room RCB they generally have been PAT tested and mains filters destroyed.
