micromill 2000 starting off

Post by seapro » Tue 17 Aug , 2010 16:03 pm

I have just purchased a Micro mill 2000, manufactured July 2001. I am new to cnc and hope there is someone in the Swindon area or north Wiltshire, who I can talk to or see one operating.
Mine is all working from my computer, I think I may need some sort of programing disk to feed in to the operation, I can jogg all xyz axis, and home, this is where I am stuck.
Can anyone help.
Stephen

Have a good look through the downloads sections for manuals and tutorials.
eg: viewtopic.php?f=15&t=2325&hilit=dos+manual

Our manuals shouldn't be too daunting for a beginner.

Thanks, had a look, I think I need a design disc, or something like that, I have a working dongle, it is the programing I need. I have read the VR milling, micromill cnc users manual, and now want to program, where do I go from here.

Did it come with MillCAM designer ?
If it did, you'll be able to draw and machine some basic shapes, holes and text.

Otherwise you need to be looking/googling for a CAD/CAM package - they will range from free to £000's - depending on what you want to achieve.
Bear in mind that 3D work will be quite a slow process on this machine.

Hi, it came with two manuals no software, what is the cost of millcam design, I would rather go with the manufacturers software, can I download from anywhere.

Hi, we don't sell it anymore.
The current product is QuickCAM 2D design which is £150 (Single user licence)
The machine probably came with MillCAM designer, so we may be able to replace the licence for a small fee, and you can download it from here:

Thanks, I have downloaded the mill cam Designer, when I try to run the program, it tells me my dongle not present, but it is plugged into the computer and in VR milling runs the jog controls so I assume it is working.
Any suggestions.
The serial number on the dongle is S/N: 3967 if this helps.

The easiest way to check what the Dongle is programed for is to run Drights.

You may need to run it in a Dos window.

or can I send it to someone for checking..

Unzip the two files attached into the same directory.
Instead of running (double clicking) drights.exe - run drights.cmd from windows

This will bring up the program in a DOS window , and wait for you to press any key to close it.
