Spindle does not work Micromill 2000

Post by Martin » Mon 26 Oct , 2009 17:30 pm

I have a problem with the spindle of my Micromill 2000. It doesn't move at all, and both leds on the spindle board remain OFF.
I've checked all the fuses and they are OK. The board is a SPRINT ELECTRIC model 400. I think that either the spindle board or the ferrite core (output choke RASMI RS OC/1) might be faulty.

Do you have any suggestion? Do you sell these spare parts? All the other bits of the machine work properly (steppers, home switches, emergency stop, etc).

I attach schematics for a machine with a Sprint drive.

This should be somthing like the machine you have.

I would look at sheet Mdc-002a.pdf

Check first if you have 240V ac on 12 and 13 the L and N into the drive.

If so the ferite is fine and we can look further.

the SGR (Spindle Go Relay) enables the drive allowing it to run by linking 4 and 5 when it is safe.

You could hardwire a link here and see if the spindle then works.

If it does then the problem is with the SGR circuit. It could be the guard is open or the guard switch is faulty.

Finally if you have mains in and a link fitted and it still does not run check the analog signal on 2 and 3 this should vary from 0-10V DC depending on the speed requested.

Removing the 2 wires and linking terminal 1 to terminal 3 would set the analog input to 10V and the spindle should run at full speed.

Let us know what you find.

I've found a spare drive board and the spindle seems to work. The problem is finding the right settings to the presets on the drive, as the spindle runs at very low speed (even if I set 2800 rpm in the software). By modifying the values for the potentiometers on the board, I've experimented very strange behaviours of the spindle, and in some cases it runs at intervals.

As this board is used on a number of different machines, I would need to know the specific settings for the Micromill 2000 in order to use it.
Do you have any technical drawing/suggestion that can help me? Thanks.

The Micromill is fitted with a 90 volt DC 0.37KW motor.

You will need to set Switches S1 & S2 to 50-100V.
S1 = off
S2 = on

Then set the pots to the same position as the on the faulty unit.
The motor will not be stable at very low rpm.

It may be worth checking the analogue voltage to see if it is constant. If it`s fluctuating significantly then this may be the cause of your problems. The analogue should be 0 to 10 volts DC depending on requested speed. Therefore half speed would be around 5volts.
