I purchased a Tech Design CNC Mill from a school auction. It is in need of the mother board. I am not sure where I would be able to purchase one. This info is on the back of the machine- Machine SN SP 40698A
Elect. SN OCOO/27932 Mfg Date- Oct. 1996
Would you be able to help or direct me to someone that could. I would very much appreciate it.
Attached is a photos of the mill.

Re: Tech Design CNC Mill - Missing Mother board
Hi,
From the look of the photos I suspect this machine is one we have built for an OEM distributor.
A full photo of the front and back would help. I suspect its a machine badged for LabVolt?
The electronics in the back was designed to support the Smartstep control card.
Upgrading to a newer control would require a rewire but also a larger transformer as the one fitted is too small to run the upgraded card.
I attach the wiring diagram for a smartstep board.
In the UK we do upgrade machines from Smartstep to the Nextmove but this is a return to works project.
We do have stock of old Smartstep cards removed from these upgrades but these have no warranty.
Also I suspect the customer has no software.
His options are.
Purchase a smartstep control card with a DOS EPROM and then run the free DOS software.
Or return the machine to the UK for upgrade to the Nextmove control card and USB upgrade with VR Milling 5

Re: Tech Design CNC Mill - Missing Mother board
All the wiring is correct for a smartstep control card.
It looks like when the card was removed the unused connectors were left on the card.
Replacing the unit should be straight forward if a smartstep can be found with a DOS EPROM fitted.
Does anyone know how the DOS EPROM is labled?
Is there an artical on the forum covering the lables on EPROMS and which software they work with?
