Hi
I am starting to get intermittent lost steps in G00 rapids, especially short retractions on the Y axis, but occasionally X and Z also.
I am managing this for now by programming high feed speed G01 moves instead of G00, which seems to work.
The steppers are 25 years old, Nema 42 size and the drivers are either SD2 or SD3 Parker Digiplans.
Even if SD3s, the max amperage is 3A so I am guessing the holding torque and overall power is not huge.
I am contemplating changing the steppers for a closed loop system, either steppers with shaft encoders or servos.
Can anyone advise an optimum power for these?
What servos do the Fanuc and Heidenhain control versions of the Easimill have fitted?
If anyone has done a retrofit, I would be interested to hear what motors etc they used and their experiences of them.
regards
