Hi,
has anyone found a replacement type of turret for the cyclone sized machine?
the Italian company no longer make the TOE80 and don't have a similar sized turret to offer in place of it.
what type of turrets do Denford fit on new machines today, does anyone know?

Denford manufacture thier own turret for the current machines which are not retrofitable onto the Cyclone.

I looked for a replacement after I crashed my turret shearing a few pins and splitting a couple gears, but I couldn't find anything suitable.
I never found any small enough horizontal turret, even trying various Chinese manufacturers.

In the end I got new pins and gears custom made, however I did consider fitting a vertical turret, or making a custom horizontal turret. However despite getting the turret repaired, I'd already ordered a new lathe.

The clunk of the index lock position seem to be getting louder, I’ve made some aluminium boring tool holders to cut down the weight imbalance and that helps,
I am just planning ahead in case one day the turret doesn’t work.
It’s quite interesting that denford now make their own turret at least they can offer support as they are in control of the manufacture,

It's probably just needing new buffer pads.

IIRC James knows the dimensions and has made them in the past.

Hiya, thanks for this, what are they made from and where do they fit?

They are item 032 in the Barafuldi TOE80 manual (page 18 shows the diagram).

They fit under caps on the front and back (as you face the lathe), which IIRC require a pin spanner to remove.

It's been a while since I sold my lathe, but I think they're either a hard rubber, or some form of plastic/polymer. From what i remember they're not a soft compound, but a fairly hard one.

I have a couple of spares here that I made when I was having turret trouble.

I can send them to you if like, or if you would rather make them; I made them from nylon and they are 17mm diameter x 6.65mm long and I put a 1.5mm chamfer at one end.
If you open the front cap you will probably see that the bump stop has broken down and is all crumbly.

I ended up having a lot of trouble with my turret, one piece of advise it to make sure no coolant is getting into the encoder. Open the rear cover and make sure it is not full of coolant.

There is one at the back too, you have to unscrew the motor and lift away from the turret casting to get at it.

Thanks very much for the advice, I made new pads from some PTFE bar I have, these have definitely made a difference, what material would they have used from new? It seems odd that it breaks down and crumbles,
