parting ali help

Post by hpe » Wed 12 Jun , 2019 18:47 pm

i have a cyclone with a toe80 toolchanger .its all working mach 3.
i have a 3mm hss parting tool (ill buy different if advised)

i am struggling to part 25mm aluminium with it .

its snatching grabbing sounds terrible vibrates .
i can see the tool lifting a bit.

if something is loose or worn i will fix it,
But i need a base to start with
with this machine and tool what rpm and feed per rev do owners of this machine use for parting 25mm aluminium

cheers

Aluminium is difficult to part off without coolant.

We use Free Chipping Aluminium grade 2011 T3 without coolant.

With the following Feeds/Speeds.

Feed Rate/Min = 120
Feed Rate/rev = 0.07
Spindle Speed (RPM) = 1800
Spindle Speed (CSS) = 135

thanks

So with these settings i should be in the ball park?
Regarding the parting tool lifting , does this suggest faulty turret with too much play or to be expected if settings are way out ?
thanks

I would say it lifting implies the turret is not properly locked.

I would go through your tool change logic again.

You can buy alternative parting tips which work well on most Alumimium. They have a sort of M shaped profile rather than a flat tip. I'll find the part number when I'm at the shop next.
