Hello
I have posted in the past about this lathe. A couple of years ago I got this lathe from a local high school that was going to throw it out for the room. They never hooked it up , and it seems it came from a college. They had the cyclone and a triac vmc. They tipped the mill over then just threw it away. So I got the lathe and the electonics cabniet for the vmc. I have just powered up the lathe. They had a transformer and I have it stepped down to the 415 v that it calls for. The lathe is a 1998 model Long story short, turn it on and nothing on the screen , inserted the fanuc ot disc that has a number 1 writte on it by hand and still nothing. Noticed that the disc insert for the computer has a light but will not light up, so no power ? Changed the small round battery in the back that was 3 volt, still nothing . I have very little experience with cnc lathes and since this lathe was basically free just trying to get it to work. It has a qwerty keyboard and the overlays are missing . I only have the main 415 power going in to it, am I missing something? Probably quit a bit. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks mike

The MOTION CONTROL CARD (Mint card) ? Has an L with a flashing decimal point next to it. Looking closer I see there is corrosion on that battery. I will replace it but , would the same card out of the Triac vmc box work in the Cyclone ?

The L on the Denstep should be fine.

You need to look at why the computer is not turning on. I presume it has a computer fastened on the inside of the electrical cabinet door.
It may just be turned off or the power lead out.

We are looking at it now. I have some pictures of the inside, but having trouble attaching them. Will have to resize I guess. Mike

Would there be a wiring drawing for the TU150E for November 1998 ? I have some power to the computer as the fan comes on but that is it.

Martin you are alright
I have a question though .In the drawing I am seeing wires red / blue for the computer. On the dics drive I have it has a ribbon connection and a 4 wire plug that is red/ yellow and 2 black wires. tracing it to the hard drive then to the computer? I have pictures but guess I will have to resize. I am trying to resize but then the parts I want in the picture disappear. Man I need a kid who knows this stuff better than me. Thank you

Here is a picture of the back. Is there something missing ? I added the pictures but look please at the one with the 2 yellow circles. Should these 2 connectors be jumper-ed together as they look to be in the triac vmc cabinet. Thank you

That's just a piggy back lead to provide power for the CPU cooling fan.

Where about are you?
You never know, there may be somebody nearby who might be willing to have a quick look.

I am in Illinois about 70 miles south of Chicago. I do have the fan runs in the computer and actually all the fans come on, the work light also comes on . I get an audible alarm or a buzzer that sounds for a few seconds. I think all the power lights come on in the back. The screen also comes on but just blank , you can see it go out when you turn it off. I put the disk in first before the power goes , but like I was saying no light in the disk reader. I just think I am missing something.

I see in my last post I said the fan comes on in the computer, I should have said the fan in the computer power supply comes on. So I would think its alright, but maybe its not ?

I doubt there's many of these around Chicago, let alone people on here who could help.

It certainly sounds like the computer isn't powering/booting up.
My first suggestion would be to see if there is any power coming out of the computer power supply. Easiest point is one of the 4 pin molex connectors. 2 blacks are Gnd, Red is 5V, and Yellow is 12V. Probably worth checking the PSU is set to the correct input voltage.

If there is nothing, check the power switch is working, if there is one fitted. Being an old AT power supply, they used to come pre-fitted to the cases, and IIRC the switch was at mains voltage, so be careful when checking it.
If there is power, check for all the correct voltages at the motherboard plugs.
A quick google threw up this page, and the AT connector is very last one - http://www.evercase.co.uk/PowerSupplyCo ... ations.htm

Like I said Martin you are alright. I do have 1 long and 3 short beeps. I will be checking the power here soon and see what I get. If there is anything wrong I do have the cabinet from the triac and it looks like the power supply is the same , the model numbers are the same. I have tried contacting a Denford rep over here who is in Indiana but he says they only help schools. I may in most people minds seem to be wasting time on this but I was offered the machine free for the taking and I can only assume that it is for a reason. I have 2 Colchester lathes so maybe I have a thing for English lathes.

It may be worth taking the slot in cards out of the computer & pushing them back in. I would think that if it's beeping then the power supply is good.

I think I have been doing this all wrong. I have found out that I am supposed to have a security key/ dongle which I do not have. Is there a way around this? The machines serial number is EO5266. What would be the current software to use for a Cyclone . Am I asking the right question ? Mike

Hi Mike

It depends on what software you are connecting with.

If it's Dos then the machine is the key.

If it's VRTurning you would need a licence which could have been a dongle but was more likely a file. Did the machine come with ant software discs?

Should also mention I have the 3.5 floppy disks. "Fanuc ot offline programming qwerty keyboard", "lathe cam operating disk ver 1.3", "denford libraries disk", then 2 with hand writting that say "denford librarys disk" and "lathe cam designer ver 1.3". I am wondering if the fact that the lathe has had no power to it in maybe 6-7 years could it have just "bleed out" if that is the right to say it ?
