Compact 1000 not homing

Post by boots » Tue 12 Feb , 2008 16:44 pm

When the home"XYZ" button is clicked on the control panel, the numbers for the Z axis scroll but the Z axis on the machine does not move.

We have vacuumed out around the home switches, replaced the fuse on the control card, and checked the other fuses on the power board.

We are using VR Milling v5.19

Any suggestions??????

Will the X and Y axes home OK ?

If they will home OK, it sounds like the Z axis stepper drive has gone down, inspect the 3 big transistors on the black anodised heat sink on the RH side of the Baldor board for any damage.

If you cannot find any damage you could try swapping over the Z axis motor plug (Bottom RH side of the Baldor board [Orange Connector]) with the X axis motor plug (Top RH side of the Baldor board [Orange Connector]).

If the problem stays on the Z axis then its the drive that is the problem, if the problem goes onto the X axis it is the Z axis motor / wiring that is causing the problem

First of all check the E-stop.

When you press and release the E-stop you should see RL 1 on the control PCB (the long multi contact relay) operating.

If this operates then there should be power going to the Stepper drives.

Check the motor power on the Next move.

I suspect a faulty E-Stop contact is not letting the relay pull in.
