Ahhh. Do remember your machine is 25 years old - and also back in those days it was intended as an educational machine, not a production machine! No battery backup and it doesn't remember machine co-ordinates when it is switchd off. This means that every time you turn the machine back on you've got ...

Just to add... the parameters in the machine were configured when it left the factory so that the x axis displays '0' when the internal tooling 'pots' on the turret are on centreline.

This means that when the X axis is at home, the pots are 144mm (dia) from centreline.

Doesn't sound too healthy :? It does sound like an electrical noise problem. A few suggestions... Try running the software with ESTOP pressed in (so the axis drives aren't powered up) If it's a desktop PC make sure the earthing is good Check the screen on the serial cable is good Try downloading the...

It could be electrical noise - posibly from the spindle. Try executing a few cnc programs without the spindle running and see if it still happens (btw, how often does it hapen?).

I also rememeber an early software problem when maching arcs - possibly with large radii. Could it be this???

Hi Skipper... Well I found the mapping files but have decided to let you do the donkey work :D The software changes the key mapings based on where you are in the software. So take a look at the attached txt file and.... the "HotTranslation" section is active all the time, so for example QWERTY Alt-A...

I can't rememeber the actual mappings but some clues.... Use the ALT key for the mode key alt-h = home, alt-j = jog) Try other values for the same keys on the tutor keypad. Eg. the tutor may have had Q, R, S, 0, on a single key. So if S doesn't work on the QWERTY try Q or R or 0 I'll try and dig out...

From what I rememeber, when you go into Tool Offest you get an X and Z global offset (work shift), and below this the inidividual tool offests

I think you can do work shift in program too but don't have the software installed here to try. Take a look in the help - possibly G50 or G92?

The news is not good PAB :(
The computer rack at the bottom should be populated with 5 slot-in cards.
Motion Controller, PSU, plus 3 x axis drive cards.
I'll keep my fingers crossed that you can get hold of these from your seller...

Does you machine have a computer rack inside with PCBs slotted into it?
The RS232 went into the 9 pin connector on left most PCB card (the card also has an LED display on the front.
Or could this card be missing???

The 2 x monitors show the same stuff unless..
- You're in the test menu
- You're doing Graphic Simulation
Which is a bugger because the test menu is the best way to checkout the RS232 link at the machine end!

Sounds like you've got a NEE-PNC version

The circle & lines appears on the top monitor.
The small built-in monitor should have the test menu.

This sounds like the output from the ATC controller to the drawbar solenoid is permenantly on, or the keyswitch is permenantly closed (and so the drawbar is permenantly in the release position). For safety reasons a normally closed contact of the spindle run relay is in serias with the drawbar solen...

Hi Paul,
Sorry but can't be much help here!

I can picture the PSU you are talking about but can't remember much more. I would have thought the 5 and 12 v lines shared a common 0v which is taken down to ground, so not an isolated supply.

From what I remember the ATC works like this... The "arm In" solenoid energises, providing air to the Arm In cylinder, and also a reduced pressure to the Brauer unit. This is meant to provide enought movement at the drawbar to orientate the spindle, but not release the tool. I think this 'reduced pr...

Hi John,
For what it's worth, the existing spindle analogue setup got its supply from terms 1 & 2 on the drive, then feed the analogue back into term 3.

Maybe this is good for you if terms 1 & 2 are giving 12v ?

Hi John... Be carefull about connecting the Lynx drive up to your controller. I remember that some of the spindle drives used had the 0-10v analogue into the drive is not isolated from the mains. I am not sure if the Lynx was one of these. But if so, this means terminal 2 on the drive (Min) is not a...

From what I remember, check things like door is closed, oil level OK, Air Pressure OK (If machine needs air) and anything else like these.

Perhaps the Desk Top Tutor keypad is faulty. Try changing the software to use the QWERTY keyboard instead, by editing your MIRAC.GO file. Edit it using notepad, changing the lines that reads... DENFORD1.KBD 1 18.2 $2F8 3 to read... QDENFORD.KBD 1 18.2 0 (make sure you have the QDENFORd.KBD file in y...
