lubrication/maintenance

My Y axis has started binding and juddering, and I suspect it's due to lack of lubrication, or debris in the thrust bearing areas. The manual is clear about what needs to be done, but silent on how to access these areas (which, as it says, are enclosed by the cabinet). Am I supposed to remove the wh...

Microrouter V5 settings

Hi I bought a Microrouter V5 (2004) and am trying to configure it to work with linuxcnc. The previous owner was running it on Mach3, so I imported the Mach XML file. They were: Motor steps per revolution: 200 Driver microstepping: 1 Pulley teeth 1 Leadscrew pitch 1.575 But on Linuxcnc these cause th...

Slop?

Hi
I'm finding that I can move the X and Y tables a fraction of a millimetre by hand, even when the steppers are energised. Maybe 0.3mm. This doesn't feel good. Is there anything I can tighten?
Thanks

Re: Removing X stepper

Scrub that - I've removed the whole mill from the case and have managed to disconnect the stepper

Re: Removing X stepper

Thanks. Do you mean in the "wall" of the cone rather than either end? There are no plastic plugs but maybe they've already been removed because there is a small hole in each one. But the hole (on the X stepper) is facing downwards and I can't see what is beyond the hole. Feeling around with an Allen...

Removing X stepper

Hi I need to remove/replace the X stepper on my micromill I have removed the four screws that hold it in place, and it now rotates freely about the thread. But I can't see how to disconnect it from the thread (if that's what I need to do). There is a nut on the thread near the motor that I can turn ...

Re: Sherline 4345 connection to Sprint drive board

Great, thank you. Since my board seems to blow a fuse (or trip the RCD) every time I connect power, would there be any problem with a much simpler set-up: a step down transformer, bridge rectifier, and relay to switch on and off? I wouldn't be able to vary the speed and direction but that doesn't ma...

Sherline 4345 connection to Sprint drive board

Hello I have a Sherline 4345 DC motor from a Micromill, and I need to connect it to a Sprint 400 board. The Sprint has four outputs, two for armature and two for field. The motor itself has 5 wires - red, orange, white, green and black. I have no idea how to connect them. The red and black pair have...

Sprint/micromill/BOB problem

I am replacing all the Baldor board electronics in my Micromill 2000, having fried the original board. I am pretty sure the Sprint spindle driver is OK so I don't want to replace it, but I am having some difficulty with it. I'm not sure of the version and can't find a manual but it's the same as thi...

Re: Micromill power/relays identification

There is also the schematic PDF "schematic micromill" which shows plugs and connectors which I don't have (eg PL1, PL2) but in any case shows the 24 AC going to a bridge rectifier but no reference to the Siemens PSU which I posted the picture of.

Re: Micromill power/relays identification

I am looking at these relays IMG_0349.JPG and comparing them with the circuit diagrams in the "Micromill 2000 Denstep" PDF file which is in a sticky post at the top of this forum. (I'm not sure there's any point in reposting those documents here.) There are points of similarity but also a lot of dif...

Re: Micromill power/relays identification

I've realised that what I previoulsy thought was a relay is in fact the Guardmaster solenoid. I can't see the Guardmaster wiring on any of the schematics, but nothing seems to be adrift. Anyway, I still have a problem with the ESTOP. TB1 seems to be where the ESTOP signal enters the circuit board. A...

Re: Micromill power/relays identification

OK thanks. I have put the switches back on the ESTOP switch since as far as I can see neither is faulty. It would be helpful to know which relay is which. In the photo, I assume the big white relay is the main relay. But there are also two small blue 24V relays to the left of that relay. I assume on...

Micromill power/relays identification

I have a problem with my Micromill 2000 estop. The pin (a25 on the 96 way connector) remains permanently low. When I turn on the machine with the key, the front red light comes on, there is the sound of a relay clunking, and I get power to the Baldor board. But I am having troubleshooting because I ...

Re: Baldor F391 troubleshooting

Thanks - someone has previously posted a picture identifying the Z chips which means I have a slightly better than 50 per cent chance of guessing the X and Y, assuming they are placed in a logical order.

But - do you know whether issue 1 boards are compatible with issue 2?

Re: Baldor F391 troubleshooting

OK having read a bit here it looks to me like either the 297 or 298 chips might have gone. I will get new ones but I cannot find any documentation which shows in each case which chip on the board control which axis.

Baldor F391 troubleshooting

Hello I have a Denford Micromill 2000. I think I have blown up part of the driver board (the bottom one). Symptom: the X axis stepper does not move but only makes a whirring noise. If I plug the X axis cables into the Y axis socket (and vice versa) the problem gets transferred to the Y stepper. So o...
