Any updates on this as my axis drives have gone on my Orac again so i'm thinking of having a go at this.
Are there any step by step guides on how to do this and what is required for the job?
Any help with this would be appreciated
Thanks,
Mark

Repairing axis drives
I've just had another axis drive go down on my Orac lathe can these be repaired?
I'm sure I spoke to somebody at denford a while back and was told that it may be possible

This looks like the next generation (at the time) from the micro-cassette unit
I bet you just put a text program onto the (720Kb?) floppy.
Stick it in the top one, and press the top left button (read disk),
then press start, and the data will (possibly) get output via the RS232 cable.

Isn't the ME101 a portable micro-cassette drive with adjustable baud rate on the back ?
Basically the same as what used to be fitted to the machines, but in a seperate "portable" box, made by Heidenhain
Any idea what this Heidenhain unit is? It came with my Triac but I can't find any instruction ...

No - I think they are in Hebden Bridge/Todmorden near us in West Yorks - they have a Halifax phone number
OK Thanks.
Nick are you talking about the spindle taper, which I believe is R8, or do you have a quick change holder fitted to the machine (which will have the R8 taper on the back end) if ...

I think the best place to start looking would be www.ebay.co.uk (if you haven't already looked there)
A guy on ebay took a lot of our old stock of collets and chucks etc.. - try him:

I've just been told that the taper is a BT35
Are these Rotagrip of ...

Triac Data link
I'm trying to get my machine to talk to a PC, the best I've got so far is the program will load to the PC only if I hold the back space key down?? Then the file will not load back to the machine.
Any ideas?
I am using Teraterm pro

even parity

Re: older triac -1986 vintage
Undo the three screws at the front of the top cover then the unit pulls out from the front.John Reesby wrote:Daft question - How do I get access to the circuit boards, do they slide out on a tray via the hinged panel at the rear of machine or do they come out from the front?

OK thanks I was hoping it was something to do with the Heidenhain data storage device I got with my Triac as I can't find any info on how it worksSteve wrote:DTT is Desk top Tutor. This is the simulation keypad.

Re: Triac from 1990
Excuse my ignorance but what is a DTT?Enny wrote:Hi there!
I own an older Triac VMC (1990) and use the original Heidenhain DTT.
My wish is to replace the Eurostep Controller with one of the newer Cards and use the Windows based Controll Software.
Is this just a dream or possible?

I'm pretty sure the Y home switch is a proxy on those Triacs
It sounds like the switch is ON (sensing) all the time if the axis travels the wrong way when starting to home.
For the age, I would guess at a faulty proxy switch, or broken wire under the table.
All OK now, a main plug had worked ...

Thanks for the replies... I have had the serial number twice and lost it twice before I got home!
IIRC it is an older model not much newer than my Orac.

No my Triac is an older one from 1986 so I suspect there are no secret buttons there?Steve wrote:I suspect that it is a home switch problem. Am not sure on the diagnostics.
I suspect you are using VR Milling 2.
Good Luck!

I have today developed a similar problem on my Triac (Serial No: TR13106 C)
When searching for it's Y reference point it is travelling backwards and hitting the limit switch for Y-
I had thought this could this be due to a faulty proximity switch, if so is there any way of testing this? I have by ...
