Re: Novaturn randomly stops program execution

It will be wrong to say that I cured the problem, but now the machine no longer stops.

A week ago, I did some parts with a vacuum cleaner installed to grab some very long chips. It was as if it increased the time between failures. Still, it's only statistics. It may be a coincidence.

Today the ...

Re: Novaturn randomly stops program execution

Hmm. I think we can rule that one out. This morning it stopped a few minutes after start. And there is no restart delay.

Re: Novaturn randomly stops program execution

Now I have separated the wires and added an RS232 isolator. It still stops.

Is there any thermal protection that could trip after an hour of operation?

Re: Novaturn randomly stops program execution

Good point. I'll give it a try and order an optical RS232 isolator.

Re: Novaturn randomly stops program execution

I would prefer a better way, but this is how I do: I switch to jog mode, set speed and feed, start the spindle, switch back to auto and press cycle start.

When the program ends, it jumps back to the place in the program where I restarted it, so I have to scroll back to the start or reload the ...

Novaturn randomly stops program execution

Hi.

My Novaturn/FLSTEP runs fine for a random period of time. Suddenly it stops the spindle and the program execution without any error message. In average, it happens once every hour.

Any ideas how I can debug this?

Best regards,

Torleif.

Re: How do I get started with GCODE for Novaturn/FLSTEP?

Thanks for your help.

I had missed the fact that the G/M codes are documented in FLSTEP. I assume that the help text in FLSTEP.exe is read from FLSTEP.msg

How do I get started with GCODE for Novaturn/FLSTEP?

Hi.

I have a list of gcodes in the lathe manual, but no specification of parameters. Where are the parameters documented? Is there a demo CAM package that will generate valid gcode for the Novaturn?

Novaturn spindle speed unstable

Hi.

I finally got my Novaturn (DOS/FLSTEP) up and running. It was 100% strightforward, so I have no excuses for not having done it a year ago except time. Being an absolute novice with the Novaturn, I don't know what to expect, so I have 2 questions:

At 100RPM, the spindle speed is unstable, it ...

Hi Chris.

Thanks for the feedback, I'm happy to hear that your lathe is up and running again.

It seems that I should have spent just 5 minutes on the Parametric drive before I replaced it with a Lenze VFD :-)

All the best,

Hi again.

No, I'm afraid that I have lost the PC1690 board.

I stripped the electronics from the chassis and threw the chassis out a while ago. It may be that I decided not to keep the PC1690.

Sorry,

Hi Chris.

I have an assembly that consists of a PC1600, a PC1601 and a PC1623.

I will go looking for the relay board again.

Hi Chris.

I think I have the motor controller. I don't thing it is worth the postage though. With that controller, the motor speed is rather unstable at low speeds, so I replaced it with a Lenze VFD.

Why not interface the lathe controller to the VFD you have?

I wonder what the PC1619 card is, I ...

I have a nice looking keyboard. The front panel is broken through the display, so you'll have to cut the part I have clean and make a display window and everything left of that. Fairly straight forward as far as I can tell. The tape deck is included by the way.

I can't help you debug the machine ...

I have a Triac keyboard that you can have for free if you pay the postage. I can't test it, but I believe it's functional. It's not like new, but it's not too bad either. I can send you some pictures if you send me a pm with your email address.

Hi.

I'm giving the parts away for free to those needing them. I do it to help others keep their machines up and running. If you can be specific about what you need, I'll send it to you for the postage.

Best regards,

Torlief.
