I have just acquired a Viceroy TDS/1 lathe dated 1966 which has been in storage since the early 80's. It has been stored well as my friends dad was an engineering lecturer and had the foresight to cover it with grease but of course I have got this lathe from his garage and he had dismantled it to store it.
I am in the process of restoring it and would desparately like any manuals, photos, drawings, photocopies, originals, sketches on the back of cigarette packets (will pay postage etc of course) absolutely anything to help me get it back together.

TDS 1 Lathe
Hi Steve, thanks for the quick reply.
I have looked at the link you sent and downloaded it but the picture on the 1st page looks nothing like the lathe I have.
In the forum there are some pictures of the same type of lathe I have, I think they're entitled a distressed lathe or somthing like that, are there any specific serial no's etc on the lathe that I could send you to make a more specific search on this machine.

Edited to add - Does your lathe look more like the pictures later on in the manual, i.e. with a bevelled headstock casting instead of a big square-edged casting? I think the purple-coloured advertising material is from a much later date (late 1970's/early 80's) than your machine.
Serial numbers aren't much help for the manual lathes, as no-one has yet managed to find any register that identifies them to model numbers (as far as I'm aware).
To make life more difficult, there were numerous design changes done over the life of these machines whilst the same model designation was continued.
Most useful would be if you can post a picture or 2 or your 'bits', to aid initial identification. Then as you get to each major asssembly (headstock, tailstock, saddle, etc.) post a few more pictures with any specific questions.
The mechanical design of the manual lathes did not vary that much from the earliest 5" models to the later 5 1/2" ones. So I'm sure that between us we can help you to get it re-built and producing swarf once again!
