I need to cut a 28T gear for the thread dial on my metric Synchro, to supplement the more commonly found 30T gear. Cutting it isn't a problem, just have to incline the dividing head over slightly to skew the teeth to match the pitch of the leadscrew. I believe that this component is common to metric 5" and the Synchro range, so does anyone else need one while I'm set up to do mine?

Re: Thread dial gear for 5" and Synchro
OK Andy, duly noted. I've turned some blanks, just waiting to see if my ebay bid on a 24DP cutter is successful.
Anybody need a 30T gear for a thread dial indicator? I've got a spare one.

Hi
I have a viceroy TDS 1 S.C.L with a 3mm lead screw. It is missing the thread dial indicator.
Can you explain what the difference between the T28 and T30 Thread dial gears please.

One has 28 teeth, the other has 30 teeth.
The 28 tooth gear is needed to indicate correctly on pitches of 0.35, 0.7, 0.8, 1.4, 1.75 & 3.5mm.
The 30 tooth gear is needed to indicate correctly on pitches of 1.25, 2.5.
All other 'standard' metric pitches (<4mm) can be done with either gear.
It's all in the maths - whether the dividing factors of the number of gear teeth are multiples of the required pitch to cut.
There's a calculator [urlhttps://www.cgtk.co.uk/metalwork/reference/threaddialindicator]here [/url]that shows the gaps.
Hope that explains.
