atc carusel only moves clockwise

Post by ricey3 » Sun 31 May , 2015 20:13 pm

anything obvious to check guys?

tool changer only moves cw. if i enter the ccw m code it just moves cw.

same if change to a specific tool it moves the right number of steps, just in the wrong direction.

help appreciated.

What software/control does your Triac have?

Hi

I've literally just put a brand new copy of VR milling on.

Its a VMC that's had a USB upgrade at some point in the past but i got it without a computer/software, hence the new copy of VR milling. In terms of control do you mean which drive boards etc its using? Baldour I believe.

The software must believe its issuing the correct commands because have tool 3 in and tell it to change to tool 1, it moves 2 positions, just not in the right direction.

I've seen there is a counter clockwise relay (CCR) which I think swaps the ATC motor inputs around, but defualt to CW so perhaps I need to check this first. But as normal you find that after a night of research and the Mill is a few miles away.

I did check the ATC paramters in the VR Milling software and everything checks out as you expect.

Not sure on this. Wondered if it was a True Fanuc control. Have you tried a manual M32 & M33?

It does seem strange. What version of VRMilling are you running from?

i'll check exactly what version but I literally only bought the software 2 weeks ago so sort of think it will be the most up to date release of VR Milling Ver5.

Got this sorted also.

After taking the CCW relay out I found that the negative terminal on the control side had been removed and also an noise filter had been added onto one of the terminals.

I sort of suspected this was a work around to a previously unfixed problem so I returned the wiring back to how the schematic shows and gave it a whirl. This included added a noise filter on the CPR which wasnt fitted.

Carousel moved CCW but the software crashed when the carousel motor stopped moving.

I then added two suppression circuits to the yellow and white power feeds at the CCW relay terminals and bobs your uncle everything works perfectly.

So after a month of messing around I have a fully working, tool changing, coolant pumping triac running the most recent version of VR Milling. 8)

Were these the Same RC suppressor that you fitted to the coolant pump?

Is the suppressor fitted connected to the Tool change motor wires or the relay coil?

Have seen a similar problem on a new machine and it could be worth us fitting suppression as standard.

Hi, yes same ones i fitted to sort the coolant pump issue out. RS P/N 616-7682.

They were fitted on the carousel motor wires (at the relay end), yellow and white which are 240v wires with either being live depending on direction selected by the CCW Relay.

My next step would of been to fit a solid state relay which only switches at 0v so that would of got around it too.

Thanks,

I think we could get away with one suppressor if fitted to the Live on the enable relay to the Neutral on the motor. Thanks will give it a try.
