Interlock is tripping.

My novomill with Mach 3 has developed a fault with the interlocks. I simply heard a loud clicking when running the machine, then the machine stopped and doesn’t allow me to run it again, I opened up the cabinet and the three items GIR, and GR are clicking away and GSR switch is flicking from left to right. Like the switch is tripping. I have a video of this but can’t seem to load it up so anyone wanting to hear what’s happening I can sent it over on my mobile. Any ideas what’s happening and what to check/ replace . Image

It sounds like something may be shorting out the 24Volts DC.

It may be worth disconnecting one of the wires going to the guard lock solenoid.

Which solenoid should I take a wire off? The one marked GR? And which wire.? There looks to be three items going to that . I will try anything as I really need to use this machine for an upcoming project. Thanks John

If you remove wire number 90 from the GIR that will disconnect the guard solenoid.

It may also be worth checking the diode fitted inside the Guardmaster switch.

Ok great. I’m going to move things around in my garage so I can get to things a bit easier. So just to be clear because I’m no expert on anything electrical. I’m going to find wire 90 and take it out of the terminal. Will I be able to just isolate the guard master switch as I don’t use the guard master . It doesn’t have the perspex cover so the male guardmaster key has always just in the guard master interlock on the side of the machine.

Yes if it is the coil causing the issue.

It could also be the zero speed output from the spindle drive.

Se how you get on.

Ok so I took thenumber90 wire off and it didn’t fix it. I uploaded a video on YouTube of what’s happening inside the cabinet if it helps. http://youtu.be/mdeijccjO91

It does look like the 24volts DC is being shorted out by something.

With it being updated to Nach 3 I am not sure where to suggest to proceed.

Did you upgrade the machine yourself?

I took the machine to a guy in melton mowbury that converts denfords . I can’t seem to get hold of him otherwise I would drive it up there. He seems a good guy and is still advertising on eBay but doesn’t answer his phone or emails? It worked really well for over a year then just tripped out one day , very frustrating. When I hit the emergency stop button a couple of the solenoids stop tripping so maybe it’s the emergency stop button shorting out. Can I purchase a new switch just to start eliminating things. I need to feel I’m doing something

It would be unusual for the E-Stop switch to short out.

Do you have a electrical meter you can use to test the 24Volts DC supply & see if it is being dragged down?

Unfortunately I have no clue when it comes to electrics. None at all. I don’t have a meter and wouldn’t know where to plug it in . Is there anywhere in the uk Ivan drive the panel too?

We are in Brighouse, HD6 1QF

We would not be able to test it with it being converted to Mach 3.
