Focal Lens

Post by delthor » Tue 22 Sep , 2009 11:00 am

Purchased a new Focal lens for our Versalaser VL300 last year costing an arm and a leg and now its looks like we need another as having to increase the depth and intensity to enable the laser to cut through the material ...using 3mm Acrylic... It appears that the lens has a burn mark exactly in the centre. can anyone tell me what causes this and can this be avoided ? if so how ? and can this be got rid of to prolong the life of the lense ? have used alcohol but to no avail.. Surely a lense should last longer than 12 months.

The key to keeping the Laser running correctly is to keep the optics clean, (See manual for cleaning schedule what was sent out with the Laser), this includes

1. The beam window (Inside the Far left hand side of the laser)
2. The No 2 Mirror (Inside the Far left hand side of the laser)
3. The No 3 Mirror (Attached to the red anodised plate over the air assist cone)
4. The Lens (Attached to the red anodised plate over the air assist cone) Remove with 2 thumb screws)
5. Ensure air is coming out of the air assist cone
6. Ensure the air assist cone is not blocked
7. Ensure the air assist cone is fitted squarely to the carriage assembly
8. Ensure the air extraction system is working correctly
9. Ensure the water trap is drained regularly, cold water on a hot lens will cause cracking
