Ball screw backlash

Post by Ollie » Tue 03 Apr , 2007 7:03 am

G'day

Has anyone tried to remove the backlash from an 85 era or simular Triac?
From the look of it, it has two nuts per lead screw. I guess it may be “simple" shimming to remove the backlash!
If anyone has some ideas on how to remove the backlash besides buying new screws and nuts, I'm all ears. I don't think 0.005" backlash would warrant new parts.

Many thanks
Ollie

Hi,
if you undo one nut and turn it against the other then lock it back up.
remember you will need some working clearance. Before you do anything make sure the belts are tight. I run mine with .003 backlash because there are no wipers on the ballscrews??? and swarf reguarly gets ingested.
Not such a problem if like me you have converted to servo's but a disaster if your still running steppers.
Tony
