it could be noise in mach or crap on the screw

both would cause this, noise is where I would start.

Do you loose steps when the spindle is off ?

there are settings for debounce in the smoothstepper config, have you set anything in there.

I'm not up on smoothsteppers so it's hard to advise, could you go back to the old setup and try it. It may be the smoothstepper that has the problem.

tom in order to re tune the steppers I need some info, can you help?

I need number of steps per mm and lead screw pitch

do the drivers do half steps?

drivers are running half steps, 200 steps per, 1500 velocity, 150 acceleration, step pulse 5.

pitch is 5mm

well what a busy day, I have finally found the cause of the long term issue ive been having with the x axis. two knackered bearings on the table which I replaced today.

the machine is now running very well.

tom is a star, had a number of phone calls with him today and he pretty much talked me though replacing them. top man many many thanks

when putting the bearing the opposite end to the stepper back I managed to damage it. I really struggled to get the lead screw back into the bearing.
so may need another phone call when I get a replacement bearing :)
