Triac Motor Issues

Post by andy_con » Thu 18 Jul , 2013 18:29 pm

ive had nothing but issues with the motor since I got the machine.

machine is running -

mach3 and smooth stepper
ive installed spindle feedback (rpm sensor)

if I do s3200 sometimes it run 3300 other times it can be as high as 3500, it never used to do this, the speed has been going up over time. when I first got the machine if I did 3200 it would always run at 3150 etc...

when I run the spindle slow, so say I do s1000 then the machine flickers around going from 1000 to 1300 constantly, so my surface finish isn't great. when I put the motor under load it seems to smooth out, but take the load away and speed goes up and down and you can clearly hear it doing so.

checked the main brushes on the sem motor and they are fine and ive checked the brushes at the top of the motor and they are fine.

all thoughts welcome

Try adjusting the stability pot on the Sprint 1200 drive.

If the speed is rising for the same demand this would indicate the motor may be becomuing demagnetised.

If the motor runs overspeed to the rating then this would indicate a fault on the motor.

You may be able to still use the motor but you will be taking higher current than normal as the voltage for a specific speed is lower.

The motor will have a speed and voltage rating on the motor plate say 4000RPM 140V.
