Starturn c.1993 - conversion to Mach 3

Post by darrylh » Mon 11 Jun , 2012 22:02 pm

I have a Starturn 1993 model (Serial: 30203 A) that has packed up working with the Tutor software and I am thinking about Mach 3 conversion.

1. Has anyone experience of the Nema 23 motors (and kits) available in abundance on Ebay?

2. Is this the best route to take or can the existing drives be used with a new board?

3. What else in the electrical cupboard (i.e. existing electronics) has to me moved over during the conversion. Presumably spindle drive is one of them, but what else.

4. How easy is this machine to convert to Mach3?

Thanks

1. new stepper motors will almost certainly perform better.

There are loads of people who have updated to Mach - it's pretty straight forward if you can spare the time reading up and working out a plan.
I'm not sure what electronics you have but I'd keep the stepper drives to start with.
