Spindle Cover Removal

Hi all,

I have a Starmill but for some reason it doesn't look like the Starmill in the image gallery of this forum. It looks much more like the machine in the Novamill image gallery.

I am having a couple of problems at the moment and need to have a look at the spindle head.

I have used a picture that I found elsewhere on this forum because it looks most like my mill. I've attached the picture and circled the 3 bolts on each site of the spindle cover which I have removed. I' have also circled the 3 bolts on the top of the cover which secure the bellows, I've removed them too.

Unfortunately the cover seems to still be fairly well attached. Does anyone have any idea what else I would need to do to remove the cover?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

that should be it, it goes upward. Give it a good pull.

Thanks for the reply angel-tech,

I have to say I have tried quite hard to lift it off but it does seem to still be fairly well attached.

I can't find any other fixings and can't see any reason why it should be restricted from moving.

I have tried gently trying to pry it off. I've tried pulling it upwards quite hard too but it just seems to be rather stuck.

Admittedly it is an old machine so I was expecting it to be a bit resistant but I'm worried if I try and force it I may break something...

It should lift off as Tom says.

How about tapping it on either side to release it.

Thanks again for the reply Martin,

I've tried tapping.

I'm thinking maybe I'm just being a bit of a girl. If it should come off in the way you describe then I think I might just need to be a bit more forceful.

I'll have another go when I get home.

Thanks!

Thanks for the help, I eventually managed to free it up with a little gentle persuasion from a small prybar.

I guess maybe it's never been removed!
