Spare Novamill based station wired differently...
OK, the saga continues...
Still trying to get this spare control box up and running. Having had a good root around inside following cores I've noticed there is a load more i/o connections on the spare control box compared to the current one running my machine.
The spare box also has a a cam 002 inked on the serial number see pic.
Also the machine connector had an extra pin screw post installed so it wouldnt plug onto my machine, with hind sight this suggests that its configured for a different machine setup... possibly an atc or somthing i guess.
see pics below.
Question is how do i return to to the same config as mine? Can i simply remove the additional wires from the control card? And if necessary re-wire the machine connector to match my original machine (not that i've had it apart yet to confirm the connector is differently wired).
Any relevant details on the spare box's machine and pointers would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance...
Cheers

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...
Inspection sheet here:
Looks like it used to be a standard novamill with no ATC

OK so it looks like I could be in to rewireing using my machine as a template.

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...
I have had a quick look at the lower picture.
The difference between the two is that the top one does not have feed and speed override pots fitted. The lower one has. These are the extra wires in the 6 way connector at the top.
The extra wires in the connector at the bottom are for a toolchanger.
I attach a pdf showing the wire numbers.
The box should be interchangable all that will happen is the wires in question will not have mating pins fitted to the connector on the machine.
The only worry I have is the issue of the pin
On speaking to production the pin was fitted to prevent control boxes from the Nova Turn being connected to a Nova Mill. It may just be an early machine but I would check it out.
There are circuit diagrams available in the forum.

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...
OK both are definitely novamill boxes as they look the same and the part number plates are consistent. I have a 1996 novaturn and the box is smaller and different inside albeit it may be an earlier model.
I've got the 24dc logic mod to do (see previous topic) which may fix the issue, so I'll do that first.
What confuses me is that the machine cabinet lock doesn't release when I power on the control box as it does with the origional. So I'm thinking its not getting power and hence the connector may be subtly different. I'm wondering that since the ATC seems to have been added after new (not on the origional QC doc see attachment above) if the connector may be non standard and hence why the pin was added. I'll open it up and check against my origional one.
I'm also going to remove the pot wires and put them in a separate chocolate block, same with the ATC wires leaving the ones consistent with my origional box and see if all goes well.
Will advise but progress will be slow as I'm busy over the next few weeks.
All help much appreciated.
Thanks

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...
OK, some progress to report, the DC mod worked perfectly, but she still wont power up the machine unles you manually move the ESR relay test switch.
After taking the connector apart it would appear that the machine connector is wired up differently on the 2001 control box compared to the 1999. I've belled out the pins and whilst the stepper, limit switchs, and spindle motor are the same the other conncetions seem to differ slightly, plus there are the extra two pins which I assume are for the Autochanger. For instance the interlock pins on the 1999 seem to be the speed and feed on the 2001 control box... i think...
Having finally got totally pin-blind trying to figure it out for my self... does anyone have the pinouts for the 2001 machine connector?
Also do I need a special tool to remove and move the pins from the machine connector to replicate my 1999 machine or is there a trick to get them out?
Any help appreciated.
Cheers

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...
Oh and I've also spotted that the jumpers bottom left of the card (J1 & J2) are different for the two boxes. Any thoughts? Enable pot and autochanger?
... we're having fun...

J1 & J2 select the voltage for the Feed & Speed overide pots. 5v or 12v.
Yes you would need a pin extractor to remove any pins.
Take a look at the E-Stop line drawing number NVM-D10 from the folowing link.

Is the link fitted?
Is the emergency stop pushbutton working, have the wires come off on the inside?

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...
OK I'll check to see if the link is fitted, I know the estop switch is fine as the machine works perfectly with my original (1999) control unit, its only the spare one (2001) thats not playing yet.
For my education on NVM-D10, does the little arrow on the core either side of the E Stop Contact denote the machine connector, and are the numbers below the machine connector pin allocations?
I am 90% sure that the 2001 (spare) control box machine connector is wired differently to my 1999 one.

Re: Spare Novamill based station wired differently...
Yes Pin 29 is the red to the emergency stop & pin 30 is the blue.
Try the following link for the extractor tool.
