Cyclone with mutiple problems plz help.

Post by AbdulW » Thu 17 Dec , 2009 14:57 pm

Dear All,
I am a fresh graduate so dun know much abt machines. I recently bought a denford cyclone with fanuc OT Mate control from a machine house in 'as it is' condition. No manual or any sort of document comes with it.
Initially it was giving me 401,414,424 error. I cleaned the drive cards and the mother board and poof....414 and 424 were gone. i think the connections were lose as they sprung up again sometime and i have to press some plugs to make them disappear again.
I also managed to remove 401 by replacing a fuse on the drive card. I have gotten the cards and other electronics checked by an expert and its all working fine.
Problem is that i dun have the parameters of the machine so the turret and the spindle aint wrking. I managed to make the slides work.

I am distressed by the situation and need imediate help. I also codnt find the ID panel on the machine.
Gonna try and attach some photos which might give u some idea of the machine.
Your help will be very warmly appreciated.

Regards,
Abdul

The diagnostics parameter bits are listed in here:
viewtopic.php?f=4&t=2316

Be sure you are on DGNOS and not PARAM page... you'll need to set PWE to 1 and the program protect key turned off - also think you have to be in EDIT or MDI modes ? sorry I can't remember it all now!

The parameters itself are not given in the link provide.
Mr. Rob was kind enough to give me parameters but i aint punching them in as their control model is different. And secondly i dun know which parameter represent which funtion of the machine.
A person was also telling me apart from servo parameters u can try punching in the rest of them.

My machines slides are only moving that also when its on the handle mode. Coolant is working. Rest doesnt do anything.
There are no saved programs either in it, as someone told me there shod atleast be one if the parameters are right.
I m requesting someone to plz send me a txt file of the paramters which., after seeing the photos, think that his machine is like or closer to mine.

I forgot to tell the front screen when switched on gives, 0650-01, PMC: 1.0-A.
Dun know if this can help or not.

Abdul

There should be a Machine serial number (not on the Fanuc equipment) - this is needed to find any info Denford may still have.

It would also help if you have any idea who the machine was originally supplied to...

we've had a look through our records and the 1st ever Cyclone Fanuc was made in October 1987.
So, I'm wondering about your machine because the control seems to date from 1986.
Is it definately a Cyclone ? Maybe it was some kind of trial / exhibition machine...
We need as much history and info you can supply :!: knowing where it was supplied originally would be a great start.

Thankyou for the reply sir.
No, there is no serial number infact there is no ID panel on the machine.
Maybe the earlier place who had it took it off or something.
The machinery house who sold me the machine, i wod try to locate and contact him to know where he got this from in UK.

Abdul

I suggest that if the axes are moving then the parameters are 99% correct (and possibly 100% correct). If teh parameters aor diagnostics were missing then the axes would not operate.

Also, can you let us know what is written on the chips highlited in the attached photo.

the upper one says ....CYC 1.0 A 012
Lower one says......CYC 1.0 A 011

And abt the parameters being correct, all the cards and everything is fine ihave gotten it checked. I had two different ppl over and they both told me to get the parameters if u want it working.

Back from my holidays.... Happy New Year to you all!
I think this could be one of (if not the) first Cyclone ever built (well not the first - that one fell of the back of a lorry in Hanover).

The PLC EPROM numbering system is CYC V.M R
V = PLC version number
M = machine number
R = PLC revision number
So your "CYC 1.0 A" is machine number 0, revision A

I don't have a solution, but from what I remember (and my memory could be wrong) this machine is unlikely to have any 450 diagnostics (the PLC was written to match the machine) but instead needs individual entries entering in it's timer/counter areas. Without a PLC listing or the documentation that was shipped with the machine this is going to be difficult!

Can you remember where the 1st ones went Magoo ?
It looks like our records here started a year or two later than this one...I'm guessing the 1st machines information will have been kept in a development folder ?

All I can remember is that each machine had a folder assigned to it in filling cabinet in the old Drawing Office :!: :?: :!:
It does ring a bell that CYC1.0A had a folder in there (it's funny the things you start to remember!)

Thankyou for all ur replies. And i apologize on my late reply was busy working on some other stuff.

I think the serial number have to be somewhere on the machine.
I know colchester lathes doesnt only have ID panels but also have the serial number engraved on there bed slides.

Do you guys know if Denford have this kinda hidden serial number somewhere on the machine.

P.S i m trying to get into conact with the person in a machine house who sold it to me, due to holidays its getting delayed.

He promised me to look into his record and let me know abt it.

Thanks

I almost lost my faith in this machine. Until yesterday with a help of a friend who fix machines. I was able to get the spindle slides and turret running and as when we were ready to run a program my friends leg hit the back latch or door which was open. The machine suddenly gave us alarm no 401,414 and 424.
to bring into ur notice my friend tried to set the diagnostic bits for the machine himself as i told u i didnt get the bits it was all blank.
Paramters seem to be fine.
Now we are stuck here. Leds work fine. All the fuses has been checked, no problem cod be identified at the back panel. All seems to be fine. But cant get rid of the alarms.

PLz HELP

Check the diagnostic bits 720 and 721:
viewtopic.php?f=33&t=1053&start=0

If the LV bit is set for example, I would think that the supply to the drive has been cut.
I guess that there is a loose connection in the emergency stop circuit, or on the emergency button if the machine cutout when it was knocked.

my 720 and 721 bit is set to...00010000
and 722 and 723 are all zeros.

What is there to change?

I do not think this is anything to do with parameters!

As I remember 401 is a general drives error and the alarms 414 and 424 are indicating a fault with both the X and the Z axis.

I would think as Admin says it is a supply problem to the drives. When you power on the uint you should hear a few clunks as the power initialises the Power input unit pulls in a contactor and checks the supply levels then if all is OK the second contactor pulls in and energises the drives.

Can you hear any of this happening?

I would think that as the second contactor pulls in it will be dropping out at once and the alarms come up on screen?

The diagnostic shows Bit 4 = 1 that is 4: an improper current alarm (HCAL)

Either a fault has occured on the drive or there is a loose wire that has tripped the drive.
