I sometimes get strange problems like this and it usually comes down to a loose wire. Normally on the large connector block where the wires from the circuit board connect with the wires that go to the drives etc. When you open and close the box all these wires flex. You really should connect it to a...

QuickCAM 2D with PNC Triac - Cutting Arcs
Sometimes when I import my CAD file it turns the arcs into hundreds of little lines about 0.3mm apart. Not normally a problem with a modern machine but my old machine stops between each line of code, and has a tiny memory so this can be a huge problem. I only work with lines and arcs to keep memory ...

No, if I load the code in to the machine first it runs fine. It also won't work with the spindle running so I don't think it can be the code. It has always done this since I bought it. I just ignored it and used it as most programmes will just fit in the memory as it is normally fairly simple stuff ...

Today I connected a double shielded cable, with a metal earthed plug directly to the PCB. Only about 10mm at the PCB connection wasn't shielded, and ran the cable well away from the machine. When drip feed the machine did exactly the same thing, stopped in exactly the same place as it did before. I ...

No luck I have reduced the lead to less then a meter. It is also well earthed at both ends. My programme stops at the same place with no spindle running. With the spindle it stops after the spindle starts and now says "Parity error in received character" which is more then it did before. The inside ...

Hi Admin Thanks for the reply. The cable uses the shield to go between one of the pins so I was a little worried about earthing it. Can I just earth this? Also if I connect a small wire to earth the screen, it becomes a wire that needs cutting off because of making it an aerial? I am afraid I am sli...

Drip feeding problems - PNC Triac (spindle rs232 noise)
Hi All I have a problem with drip feeding data to my PNC3 Triac. I can load the machine fine but when I drip feed it just loses connection. With the spindle set to run it loses connection as soon as the spindle starts. If I run with no spindle it runs fine for a while but then stops, always in the s...

You need to type an L at the end of each line to get it to store in the Triac memory. If you don't it will try and drip feed to the machine, if it has not done the command you first sent it will not do any more. Hi I use the "Industrial text editor" with my machine and it works well. I use it on a modern machine and although its a bit clunky if all you are only using it for is to send information to the machine it doesn't matter. What you say about the screen displaying the baud rate etc is correct. This is...

Hi Richard I have a PNC Triac. I am watching your conversion as its something I plan to do so I can cut 3D etc. Did you know if you buy Denfords QuickCAM 2D (£150 on ebay?) they have done a post for the PNC3 Triac. I use it all the time for 2.5D work. You draw up your work in CAD, produce the CNC co...

I'm using a "proper" vacuum pump that I use for casting resin and laminating wood. The type of thing you find in a vac-forming machine, an electric motor with compressor pump on the end. I hadn't thought of using a vacuum cleaner. It may work better? I think my table would need redesigning to allow ...

Triac Vacuum Table
I thought some of you might find this of interest. 90 percent of what I do with my Triac is cutting parts from acrylic sheet (Perspex). Normally they're quite small and intricate so I have a piece of MDF on the table and tape the plastic on top with double sided tape. When I cut the part I leave 0.1...
