Re: Speeds & Feeds display in VRMilling 5
Im on older machines, the Microrouters not the 2600. One thing I did notice it would jump up to display the max travel speed when doing rapid moves as it should but then loose its head when it came to displaying the actual speeds in action. It has to be an issue with VR5 being able to display things...

Re: Eprom Upgrade?
I used to have an eprom reader/burner and a UV box to erase. Wish I hadn't cleared out 'that old stuff' if I had I could read an eprom I have here. I'll ask some friends who might have a reader.

Re: Speeds & Feeds display in VRMilling 5
I have seen this happen as well, To double check when using the manual override you are able to slow or speed the spindle up BUT the display does not reflect the speed of the spindle and give very miss leading values? If so yes I have seen this, I did not upgrade to the latest version of the VR5 as ...

Re: Z-axis height
I would say yes, with the older microrouters fitted with the portercable motor it was set up so you could and I have moved them up and down as required depending on the material and cutter length.

Re: Novamill communication issue
Those RS232 LED units are great, I got my Mum to send me mine over (I moved out years ago but knew it was still there) when I was sorting things out with another machine, I had one of the ones you use jumper cables to link the pins but that had vanished. Makes it a lot easier to ID and try things. P...

Re: Novamill communication issue
I just dug out my 2 USB to RS232 devices and plugged them in to my desktop PC running win 10, The 1st is a Prolific PL2303HXA which interestingly Win to reports in the comports as PL2303HXA phased out since 2012 Please Contact your supplier Now I was running this in windows XP when I used it in DOS ...

Re: Novamill communication issue
There has been some posts in the past about usb/rs232 and issues over unreliable connection, i dont recall complete failure. I could well be wrong. I seem to recall some types work some dont and it being down to the chip used in the converter. Im going back about 5yrs on this now, i have used 2 with...

Re: Novamill communication issue
A real quick one you could try is swap pin 2 and 3 over on the chassis mount rs232 on the cab. I have over the years met many counts of RS232 issues which come back to an incorrect wiring. Now one would have thought that as the machine was working before and you are using the same lead it should be ...

Re: Help with x axis stepper
As i say I'm not familiar with the orac at all and only have very limited experience 5yrs ago with my Starturn 5 (many other projects have got in the way since I got it so it's sat in the corner waiting for its turn) my manual lathe works on Radius, so if I set the tool to touch on a 20mm dia bar an...

Re: Help with x axis stepper
My only dealings with the Orac were seeing one in a corner of the workshop in school back in 1987 and noticing it had a sharp car cassette deck less the radio section. i wish someone had known how to use it and shown me back then but no one did. Anyway I was thinking and doing a comparison to the mo...

Re: Micro Router 2nd Hand
You need to download the correct diagrams so you can trace your fault through. Look in the section for you machine.

Re: Micro Router 2nd Hand
The only suggestion on the switch is to go through the wiring diagram. Follow it back to the control board/s work out if the switch should be be open or closed when the door is shut and you want to use the machine. Once you know that and know where on the control board then remove the wires from the...

Re: Setting up rotating axis
I've not used 4th axis but in VR milling I have seen a tick box for IV axis and various settings. You would need to go into the machine settings menu.

Re: NovaTurn not responding to software
I have the tail stock, you will be pushed to get 150 between centres, I suppose it would depend on what centre you use on the tail stock. With it fitted you are very restricted on boring too due to the size of the ATC.
You don't need the battery by the way. Just remove and clean the board up.

Re: CNC electronics textbooks/reading material
all the diagrams are on here. I have got as far as having the working starturn 5 with original DOS control, novaturn diagrams, a nextstep control and software. Unfortunately that's where it has stopped I looked through my machine and it will be sort of straight forward, need a 24v PSU when I get goi...

Re: Micro Router 2nd Hand
You need to stop. Step back and focus on one thing at a time. The only way you are going to get to the bottom of this is by taking a logical approach. If you are reliant on this for work then you need to set aside some decent down time to work through it. You have the Kress motor rather than the por...

Re: Micro Router 2nd Hand
Cutter looks fine, as long as you have at least one cutting surface that goes to the centre axis. I can't help anymore on the door lock/switch as I haven't had to strip one yet, so you are on your own with that. Although if you slide your machine so the front is just off the bench you should be able...

Re: Micro Router 2nd Hand
you can electrically bypass the switch. You need to look at the wiring diagram and then either do it at the switch or where the wires go to the board. Just remember though If you do that whenever you go to move the machine with the door open it will move at the normal pace and NOT the slowed pace it...
