Has anyone replaced the novamill spindle motor?
Hi all, I've been considering upgrading the spindle motor on my novamill with a more powerful and faster AC one with a VFD, has anyone tried this? What is the power rating for the spindle? Would I trash the bearings running it a 10K RPM? My two reasons are, I'd like the speed for machining with smal...

"Fogbuster" style coolant on a novamill...
Hi folks, Some decent progress has been made on my Novamill upgrades, and I now have coolant. This seems to be having a positive effect on surface finish in free cutting aluminium, and generally how the tools are cutting. Have a look at my YouTube video if you are interested. https://youtu.be/URk_8m...

Re: novamill atc retrofit
Hi folks,
Whilst no where near as elegant as the posts above (that is a work of art!) I have made more progress on my upgrade.

I also have a working reverse engineered carousel prototype, and will hopefully be posting videos about that in the near future.
Cheers

Re: Releasing Tool With No Compressed Air
Hi James, If you are interested in knowing how the power draw-bar works check out my draw-bar upgrade video. You could loosen of the nut at the top of the spring stack and that would release your tool, however beware of loosing the collett balls! If you were really stuck you could replace it with a ...

Novamill automatic indexing 4th axis (3.5 axis) + M62/4
Hi, I am building an arduino 4th axis indexer ( http://www.liming.org/millindex/ ) and am hoping to integrate it with my mill via a pulse from the Aux outputs (Aux 1 M62 on M64 off), is this viable? If not it'll be a manual step in the machining process, and after getting a prototype tool changer wo...

VR milling 2 - z plane arcs
Hi Folks, I'm using fusion 360 for cam which is going pretty well. However some of the linking paths via the denford post use g18/19 plane arcs moves. My novamill doesn't like these, I'm using the official denford post. My mill is rs232 red segment controller and latest VR Milling 2 software. Is it ...

VR milling 2 - continuous tool paths?
Hi folks, I'm now using my novamill more frequently and one of the things that's annoying (from a surface finish perspective) is that the mill doesn't execute consecutive lines of code as a continuous path. The mill stops at the end of each gcode line / move before continuing on to executing the nex...

Re: Connecting a coolant air valve solenoid for a "Fogbuster
Without looking at the electrical drawings that all seams fine. Let me know if you have any issues & I will dig out the drawing. Hi Martin, All looking really good, apart from a bit of a weird one, when I enter an M command to send my ATC carousel "out" it also energises the coolant relay, any thou...

Re: novamill atc retrofit
Hi Barry Looks good! What was your reason for mounting on the right hand side vs the normal left hand side? I've sourced a cylinder, but no brackets, so need to fab some. I've not had chance to get the new plate made, was holding off so I could get the cylinder mounting holes cut at the same time. ...

Re: novamill atc retrofit
Hi Jon, Doesn't look like the holes are there in the head stock casting. I wafted a magnet over the casting and it was magnetic all over the mating surface. I'm picking up my bracket in the morning (I don't have a welder). I tweaked the drawing that I uploaded previously, adding a recess to the fron...

Re: novamill atc retrofit
Yes the sensor to count the toolchanger is a prox switch on the Genova Cam. However it has to read two pulses to know the thing has gone a full station. Two reves of the cam are required for a toolchanger. Hi Steve, Just to be clear I think what you are saying is; The Carousel sensor (NVM-D4C) / AT...
