Re: Mirac And no software
I had to think long and hard when I got my Starturn, back to the early 90's when I was doing stuff in DOS and all the problems we used to face to get RS232 gear running on 486machines never knowing if it was the I/O card conflict with the motherboard or an incorrect jumper or program setting. I am s...

Re: Mirac And no software
Sorry I can't help anymore, it is a different machine to my Starturn 5. I sort of know what you are going through, I got very frustrated with a lack of input from people at times (still do) but I read through so much, used a lot of mirac wiring to help me check through mine until I got it working. S...

Re: Mirac And no software
Have a search for my posts, I had this sort of problem with a Starturn 5 with the same control board. I had a genuine Denford Lindy rs232 lead but was still getting problems. Turned out I needed to swap pins 2 and 3 round (TX-RX data) I did it in the control box rather than modify the lead as the le...

Re: triac coolant on/off produces error
Is it an AC or DC motor? If it is any use I have a Roxburgh Suppressors SDC 021 2 Amp 250c AC unit you can have. It just goes in series with the live and neutral with a connection to earth. It does sound like there is an issue with noise. More would be needed about the specs of the control and the m...

Re: 1992 Mirac PC Computer to Control Box Cable
from what you have said it makes sense that the spindle wouldn't spin until there was an indication that the chuck is closed (safety interlock). have you checked any sensors/switch's that would be on the check/air line? I've never had any dealings with air chucks so don't know how they work. Is a co...

Re: Using a standard QWERTY keyboard to control a Starturn 5
Cheers Martin, Boy that was a long thread to get him going. At least I will be able to play using the QWERTY keyboard, I had got the hand of the tutor for control it was just the filenames. Is there any info on setting the default path for the 'job' files, I looked through as many of the programs/fi...

Re: New to CNC micromill owner
As I said earlier the physical 'Dongle' you have will be for mill cam designer. As Martin says the VR CNC Milling 'dongle' is actually the licence file on the floppy disk. Have you been able to use the floppy drive on the computer to read any of the other disks? You are correct, if you format the di...

Using a standard QWERTY keyboard to control a Starturn 5
I've not done anything with my lathe in a while since building up the ATC again and turning a test piece. I think I need to adjust the height of the cutters a little but that's another story. So far I have been running the Starturn using the denford tutor keyboard (infact it is an Starmill keyboard ...

Re: 1992 Mirac PC Computer to Control Box Cable
Because you are getting some reaction from the machine running the go file I think you do have coms on the RS232. However when I had the 128 issue with my Starturn swapping the TX/RX line over solved the problem. It took me a while to sort out as I had a genuine Lindy/Denford lead with it. Rather th...

Re: Steady 5.5" or 6"
well I had a mooch, from the bed flats to the centre line of the chuck my boxford is 5" and my steady looks to centre at 4.5" so I was in error, mine is to low not to high. I only had my digital callipers to hand and with every pic I took I couldn't see the display. I will get in with a rule and do ...

Re: mirac dos and window98 era
Judging by the title DOS and Win 98, The design of 'modern' computers is such that you can't run DOS based software on them the CPU can't do it. Im not sure if it is possible to run DOSbox on an older PC that is running Win7 OS though. So really it would depend on the processor/mother board. If you ...

Re: Cutting really small pieces
or just leave the honeycomb in place and put on blocks as Martin says, setting custom fixture to the thickness of the support blocks. I have actually managed to cut through 13mm material before by saying it was the max thickness it reports it can cut (8.9mm I think) but mounted on a custom block 4.1...
