My disk was completely missing when I bought it! I don't think it's all that critical. It just needs to read the tool number slightly after it has passed the correct tool position. The motor then reverses at half power until it locks. The detection point wants to be fairly close to the lock position...

I must get around to writing this up properly - we've just been overwhelmed with work and not had a moment! I've been using the lathe with Mach3Turn for a while now and on the whole it's been pretty good. A couple of things I've found which may be of use to people: 1 Use a transformer based PSU for ...

Very nice! Where are the handlebar clamps from? We currently make a light which mounts on the roll cage of 4x4 vehicles: http://www.x-eng.co.uk/Images/X-Lite/Bright%20Night%201%20LR.jpg http://www.x-eng.co.uk/Images/X-Lite/Black%2046s.jpg And we've had a lot of people ask if we could make something ...

EasiTurn Chuck/camlock type?
I want to buy a new chuck for my Easiturn lathe.
Do you know what type of cam-lock back plate fits? Are they the same as one of the other more common brands E.g. Colchester?
Thanks in advance,
Si

It's already isolated on the CNC4pc board - that's why it specifies using a separate 12v supply for the spindle ref. It cannot share an earth with any of the existing supplies - so it might be as well to buy a specific 12v supply just for this! The '0v' line on the power supply will float at ~120v w...

The transistor is obviously not turning fully on. It's strange that your step & dir outputs are showing different voltages! Is it possible that the step output is pulsing (switching on and off v.fast)? On mach, try swapping the step & dir outputs and see if the voltages shown reverse as well. A tran...

I think before you go any further, you need to find out what is actually happening! Disconnect your transistor drivers from one step and direction input. Then measure the voltage between the step input pin and ground, and again for the direction (with the stepper driver powered up). It should read s...

That looks pretty good! I'm no expert on CNC conversions - just have a little bit of general engineering experience and am not afraid of 'suck it and see' type solutions. I was a bit afraid of something letting the smoke out - but it all seemed to stay tightly inside. One tool I have which proved in...

The post http://www.machsupport.com/forum/index.php/topic,9265.msg56921.html#msg56921 from JimPinder is exactly what I proposed - and works. I'd ignore the rest! On my board, the outputs are supplied with 5v from the main USB derived supply - which drive relays etc. Separate 5v supply is not a probl...

Ah! You have very similar pin-outs to me! Connect 2 & 3 together to make the spindle run Connect 4 & 5 to run forward or 5 & 6 to reverse (but not both at the same time!). Mach has one output for run forward and another for run back. I didn't use the spindle relay on the breakout board as it was wir...

I actually have the whole thing up & running nicely now. I was waiting until I get a chance to make up a new front panel before I post the rest of the conversion details. The Home switches were inductive and needed an 8 volt supply - so used a 7808 voltage regulator. It turned out that the built in ...

Don't know how 'standard' it is, but after a bit of cable tracing I found that the lube pump relay is just wired to come on with the main power - so it runs all the time. I scored a 15" touch screen on eBay. Going to make a new front panel for the PNC3 box housing the monitor and MPG's. Conversion j...

Lube pump question?
Does it run continuously, or just when the axis / spindle are running? I need to know for my mach conversion. I had originally assumed that it ran continuously - but it's actually controlled by the PNC3. I need to know how it normally behaves in order to automate it. Any help will be much appreciate...
